I'm aware of that part. The reason why I said it's supposed to be faster but not by much is because of how it's performed so far in benchmarks. It's not a hardware issue though of why it's not performing as well as it should like the Optimus G which has the same processor also, but eventually when some of these bugs are fixed in 4.2, I think it'll perform even better than it is now. As for the screen, like I said, it's just based off of eye sight. Yeah, non-pentile is supposed to be better, and I'm not saying it isn't. I'm just saying I can't tell a significant difference between the two. The S3 is still a nice phone, even though it's almost 6 months old.
Forget any context. Just think about this statement. The S3 blew the doors off and took Samsung to another level. The pace of innovation and improvement of mobile products is insane. What will people say when the S4 hits the market in about 4 months? The spec rumors for it are almost silly. When it comes to buying tech, my longtime motto of "you won't regret waiting" still rings true.
Well then you will be waiting forever. The nexus 4 is a great deal. You can get it and sign up for MVNO and you would probably spend 1/2 what you would spend with iphone or S3.
For me, the problem with the Nexus 4 is availability plus my own personal finances at this time. My point is if I wait until next summer, the N4 will probably cost even less or a better deal/phone will be on the market. I would LOVE to get the N4 and combine it with T-Mobile's $30.00 prepaid plan, but it doesn't bother me because I won't regret waiting.
The other thing is, since T-Mobile is supposedly launching their LTE network sometime next year, you'll get to take advantage of it with the Nexus 4 since the LTE chip inside of it supports T-Mobile's future LTE band.
Benchmarks=/ real world performance. Still doesn't remove the fact that the processor in the nexus 4 is an entire generation ahead of the processor in the S3(tegra 3 variant)... plus has twice the ram.... It is not close.
Minor nitpick, but the NA Galaxy S3 (except for the T-Mobile version I guess) has the same generation CPU (and same frequency) as the Nexus 4, but it is dual-core instead of quad-core. 4 > 2 of course (I'd prefer Nexus 4), though sometimes hard for that to be shown with actual software (benchmarks or otherwise). Though even the quad-core Exynos in the other S3s isn't a slouch. I might be remembering wrong, but it performed quite a bit better than the Tegra 3 (and the Snapdragon CPUs IIRC). Only Krait seemed to do better (and even then, IIRC, quad-core Exynos > dual-core Krait).
That's right... my error. The world variant of the S3 has a quad core exynos. The thing is that it is running on A9 chipset which is still a generation below Krait.
Switching gears to GPUs a bit, I haven't really checked out benchmarks/specs, but how does the Adreno 320 do against the Mali 400 MP4? The Mali is a bit outdated, but still a beast (especially since it was clocked pretty high in the S3 IIRC). I think the first dual-core Kraits only had Adreno 225s (including NA S3), which weren't that great, but I the Nexus 4 (and other quad-core Kraits?) have the Adreno 320. edit: As good as these quad-core Kraits are, a quad-core Exynos chip (based on A15, so Exynos 5412 or whatever) with a next-gen Mali should be blazing. That sounds like Galaxy S4 territory though, and maybe even a little optimistic for that.
The Nexus 10 has a dual core Exynos with the A15 chipset. People are saying performance is a bit underwhelming. My DNA i just purchased recieved a 20,000+ score on AnTutu while the Nexus 10 struggled to break 10,000. These are just benchmarks though.
Nexus 10 also has a lot more pixels to push (2560×1600 vs 1920x1080 or even less with other phones....2-4 times the pixels if I did the math right). Not sure if the benchmarks are considering that. I forgot how AnTutu does its benchmarks, and whether it would be affected by that. IIRC, it has a lot of graphics tests.
Owned it so far for 4 days. Best hardware EASILY out on the market... However man I just want to get rid of this Sense crap.
320 if much faster than mali400. It is probably not as good as sgx543mp3 on iphone 5. However Qcomm has stepped its game up. Its previous adreno gpus sucked.
