Well thats not exactly true...Ivy league schools recruit big time, they just don't give atheletes money. They recruit just like every college team including d 3

Atheletes want to go play ball in college and they are less interested in the cost of college than in being able to play. My son was one of top 50 college qb's in the country last year. And he went to a private school which cost a fortune because of the opportunity to play.

THIS! People need to get over this whole Lin Only Fan obsessions. There are some people on this board who worry more about Lin Fans than they do the Rockets.

THIS. Some of them want to see Lin fail just so they can laugh in LOF's faces even if it means a Rockets L.

Okay, Ivy League schools recruit, but not in the sense that they give scholarships and provide paths to the NBA.

Lin wasn't some student-athlete who wanted to leverage his basketball skills to get an Ivy League education. He wanted to be a professional player, and based on his high school credentials, he should've gotten a better shot than Harvard.

Says Dan Shell, who was an assistant coach at St. Mary's who actually passed on Jeremy Lin when he was getting recruited by colleges. From his article The Recruiting Failure with Jeremy Lin:
And says the NY Times, who interviewed many college coaches familiar with Lin in their article For Lin, Erasing a History of Being Overlooked:

Absolutely. Let Lin play and root for him.

One-liners such as "Lin sucks" are really boring and adds nothing to the discussion.

Like I said many times before, as long as Lin is playing for Houston, I see no reason not to root for him unless you are not really here to support Houston Rockets.

The fact that some Lin fans honestly believe this to be truth is what makes me dislike them so much. The sole reason some are so critical of Lin's shortcomings are because we DON'T want our TEAM to lose.

Don't get me wrong, there are some very level-headed Lin fans that have come to the bbs that give insightful and reasonable takes on Lin and his game. But there is still a group that will go to every length to make an excuse or give some flimsy explanation to combat the slightest of criticisms towards him as a player. It is so unbelievably annoying.

If there were people here constantly defending Patterson and giving excuses as to why he isn't rebounding well or playing more in the post I would react the same way.

Hell we went through the same thing a couple years back when a certain poster so highly overrated the play of Aaron Brooks that it was comical. It's not just a Lin thing.

You can tell when they continue to disrespect someone for no reason and their criticisms don't make any sense.

Wow, you have been pretending pretty well to be a normal Lin fan until this post. How could you guys become so pathetic to pull this trick in order to make the Lin fans look bad? The reason is just beyond me. Your purpose here is not to talk basketball. Your purpose here is not to follow the Rockets. You spent time to go through the registration process in order to pretend to be a player's fan and talk crazy stuffs with the purpose to make his real fans look bad. What sorry human beings you people are. Segmund, LinMVP, you and a few others. Are you all the same person?

Being cut twice by separate teams and sent down to the D-League is a "greater start to your NBA career than every other NBA player ever"???
    Are you serious?

This is where any semblance of objectivity goes completely out the window.

    Already addressed and discredited.

Are you implying you haven't seen some of the grandiose adjectives attached to Jeremy Lin in this forum?

Look, I understand that for some of you Jeremy Lin is your "champion."
He represents chance to disprove and dispel a number of stereotypes and unfair myths about a certain demographic. Add to that, his story is a familiar one of the underdog/overachiever. That makes him easy to root for and has people eager to see him succeed.
Unfortunately, in that eagerness, many have lost any sense of perspective. They seek to emphasize his successes all the while dismissing any shortcomings. Additionally, they take any critique of Lin's performance as an attack on his entire being. I think this is at the core of the rampant racism accusations.

Ultimately some of these Lin fanatics do more harm than good. By incessantly ballyhooing "Linsanity", overstating his ability and adding their own exaggerated expectations they set an impossible standard. Furthermore, their steadfast insistence on ascribing responsibility for Lin's shortcomings to anybody but Lin himself inevitably rubs many the wrong way. Also many of them seem only concerned with Lin's success even if it comes at the expense of the Rockets as a whole. You have to know that won't go over well on a Rockets forum.

My point is some honesty and objectivity on the part of so called "LOFs" would go a long way toward quelling some of the blow-back that they perceive as hate.
    • Accept that he may not be the star some had hoped he would.
    • Acknowledge that a large part of his shortcomings are a true reflection of his limitations at the moment and are his responsibility going forward.
    • Chill on the racism accusations. While racism is real, it is not remotely as rampant in the Lin discussion as some seem to believe.
    • Understand that as long as he is a Rocket he will be criticized here on CF. Even more so if he continues to struggle. It's not personal, it's just the CF way.

When he was given a chance to start, he had the best start to his NBA career in the history of the league.

Actually, it's quite factual. At his best, Lin was record-breaking. At his lowest, he was bad, but not record-breakingly bad.

    Um, no. LOL

LightningBolt's already backed me up on this. But please, just handwave it away when you have no ability to counter.

    TL;DR

Most important thing right now is this:

Victory, with 16 pts., 10 asts., 4 rbs., and 3 stls. (Albeit against the lowly Raptors)

Let's hope he builds on that. I think we can agree on that.

The funny thing about this is I am a Lin fan, I'm a rocket fan first but I really like Jeremy Lin. They assume that I hate him because I don't think that it's racist to criticize Jeremy Lin. So I get attacked and called racist for that reason.
