Holy crap this stuff is soooo funny and soo on point Buss with the short bus lmfao the nursing home, the artest rage, zen master. Comedy gold
I mean...couldn't Josh Smith simply just publicly state that he has no intention of resigning with Atlanta and wants to play in L.A. with his best friend since AAU ball, Dwight Howard? I think that would put the onus on Danny Ferry to flip Josh smith for past his prime Pau Gasol and garbage pretty quickly. That seems to be the way things are done in today's NBA. If you don't like the team you're on, you no longer go to management behind closed doors about it so they can quietly shop you. You just tell the world you're unhappy and want to be traded to one team and one team only. The player himself turns an unreasonable trade into a pennies-on-the-dollar situation. Josh Smith for Pau Gasol is a massive upgrade for the Lakers, but I don't see how it gets done without pressure being put on Ferry by the media.
If Smith's contract wasn't an expiring or if the Lakers had other pieces to offer, then there might be a deal. The Lakers would need to pull off (yet another) miracle and swindle a third team for a really good asset. Something absurdly one-sided (like Steve Blake for Kyrie Irving) would have to happen.
The real question is why any team with an "asset" that makes the Lakers better would want Pau and his huge contract in return. Not saying something won't happen because things always seem to work out for the Lakers. Just can't see it. Maybe another 3-team trade, but why would any team want to pay Pau a king's ransom for this season and next.
Valid questions. Here we'd have to presuppose two important things: 1. The entire rest of the NBA is a D-League for the Lakers. 2. Danny Ferry is some sort of idiot.
1. Don't rule this out 2. Danny Ferry was an idiot in Cleveland but he's been great for the Hawks so far. Giving up Josh Smith + whatever to get Pau in return would be moronic.
they will probably flip ron artest for josh smith. show atlanta that artest was top 5 mvp candidate for the preseason 5 years ago according to the sports writers and that he just needs more touches to get back to that form.
Watching the Lakers, I am glad I don't support them. So many talents on one team but you have one guy chucking shots left and right.
Ferry may be an idiot but I don't see them giving up a big salary coming off the books to take on Gasol's huge contract, not when they just gave away Joe Johnson to save $$. ATL is clearing cap if anything.
