Routinely out-rebounding teams is a luxury that shouldn't be taken for granted.

If he can catch and finish, top 2 center in the NBA. His free throw shooting has improves. If it wasn't for the elbow from Dwight, his percentage should be higher.

Yeah, to me, Morey's signing of Asik makes giving Lin all that bread easier to swallow. They're truly one forward away from being the annual 4th seed in the west.:p:rolleyes::confused:

I think Asik's lowpost game will improve just like his free-throw shooting.

I'm not comparing Tyson Chandler to Asik directly. I'm saying the limitations - and strengths - of both players are relatively similar. Chandler last year finished at the basket at an astounding rate, had great hands, played extremely good defense, and was unselfish with the basketball.

Similarly, Asik's ability to finish baskets and catch passes has improved markedly and has become his strengths. Both players are similar in what they're good at and what they can't do. Moreover, Asik's defense is arguably as good as Chandler's last year.

The value of a center isn't in shooting, it's in finishing, rebounding, and setting good screens. Asik has always been a great rebounder and has improved his finish. He's a great player and has improved so much this year I find it incomprehensible people create threads wondering if Asik isn't doing enough offensively.

Come on people, Clutch Fans, let us spearhead and champion an appropriate nickname for are new 7 foot Turkish enforcer...

I like Turk 182; inspired by the underrated 1985 feature film of the same name.

With you're support we can make this happen by flooding Bill Worrell, Clyde Drexler and Matt Bullard's twitter account with the suggestion!

I wonder, will he be a candidate for DPOY? Of course we all think so, and so he deserves it BUT you can never count out the Anti-Houston media bias. Chandler could win it again since he's in NY.

Also, can Chandler also be in talks for DPOY? Would the media rate him high enough to be a candidate?

If you've watched him throughout the years he truly has gotten better every single season. I worried about him being in foul trouble but that has been a non issue. With Harden and Lin playing off the dribble and setting him up, he doesn't need to be a back to the basket type of player, that would take away from their game. He's worth every penny and I hope we lock him up for even longer.

He won't, because he doesn't block enough shots. Is it correct? No ... but that's how DPOY gets judged.

Asik and Lin play the position defense game very well ... individually, and especially together.

Asik will never be a candidate as long as the Rockets are among the fastest paced teams in the NBA. It just doesn't work that way with the media. I mean, did you know Rick Adelman's Webber-led teams were top-5 in defensive rating(defense adjusted by possession)? Or that D'Antoni's Phoenix teams were above average in defensive rating? Of course not. They had "bad" defenses according to the media because their raw numbers were bad.

Same with the Rockets. At the pace we're playing, no way any player gets defensive credit.

Asik won't win, but I think he will definitely be a candidate for DPOY. Chandler has been sucking it up in NY, everyone knows he won't win it at this rate. As for Parsons, he's a good defender but hasn't shut anyone down or had any amazing defensive players. He's your typical NBA 1st or 2nd team defender but not the DPOY.

You can't really double off a center unless he goes too far from the basket...when you are that big you are a threat as you are just such a big target so close to the hoop.

I'd say so far his defense & rebounding are more than make up for his lack of offense. But that's not good enough if the Rockets lucky enough to be in the playoffs, then his lack of offense will be exposed.

No one expected a low-post game from him, but get blocked/stripped under the basket that often is not good enough when play the good competition in playoff.

His offensive game is better than it looks. It isn't pretty, but it works. 13 points on 6 for 9 shooting tonight. His efficiency this season is pretty bad, true, but it's been trending upward.

I think his surname which means "The Bard" in English is hell of a nickname.

    The bard sang.

Honestly, Chandler only won it because they were tired of giving it to Dwight every year. Not to say he didn't deserve it or that Dwight always deserves it (he doesn't), but DPOY will almost always go to the most glamorous combination of rebounds and blocks.

asik "aşık" means "lover" in turkish. "aşk" means "love" and "aşık" means "a person in love with someone". "aşık" is also some kind of a poet in turkish literature.
