    I think it does.
And by offense I mean low post scoring.

It more than makes up for it. To be honest, his offensive game isnt bad at all. I expected him to blow alot of layups but so far, he's made alot of them. Even the ones in traffic!

    Of course it does.

We never got him for offense anyways. That extra 10 points a game is just bonus marks for Morey.

No one is asking him to be a low-post scorer. Look at Tyson Chandler last year. DPOY and couldn't play with his back to the basket at all. Still averaged a double-double, still viewed by Knicks fans as one of their best players (last year).

All the Rockets require of Asik is for him to be a willing passer, a good roll guy a.k.a catch the ball when it's passed to you, and a consistent finisher. Today he did all of that.

The only fault I have of Asik is that he does a relatively poor job setting screens. As for his offensive game, one of the biggest criticisms of Asik by Bulls fans was of his butterfingers. He's improved beyond recognition in his ability to finish at the rim and catch tough passes.

    Absolutely.

I wouldn't call his offensive game horrid... Basically on par with the C position in today's NBA.

If he improves his offense game even to barely respectable, he's a beast.

Yes, hid D and rebounding are the reason he's here and he is a big part of our wins.
He has a low shooting percentage for a center but it's not like 44% is horrible for and NBA player. I think he will bring his shooting percentage up as the year goes on and he gets more used to his role.

Dennis Rodman was a defense only player.
    He turned out ok.

Not including this game, Asik has a usage rate of 18%, which is about what you'd expect from a role player. Defensively, Asik protects the paint most of the time, basically all non-fast breaks. He's kind of like a Kevin Martin in reverse, where KMart plays a position where offense is expected but defense isn't too big a deal.

He's a center, and centers' impact on a team's defense is huge, they are by far the most important defensive player on a team (small forwards are second in most important defensive player). Offensively centers tend to have a small impact, with the only exception being man-beasts like Dwight.

The way Asik is playing now, he is close to demanding a max contract in today's NBA. (Playing better than Hibbert who just got a max).

Morey got a steal @ 8 mill/yr and I was hoping for 6/12 + couple blocks out of Asik, he is playing MUCH better than that and it's still super early in the year, he will only get better.

A part of his offensive game that limits the team though is that Defenses don't pay enough attention to him. He really isn't a threat out there. So that allows them to double elsewhere usually the back court. Ideally guys will continue hitting shots & that will open the floor a lot more to help balance out that weakness in Asiks game. Also he is a poor screen setter. Despite all this I love Omer & I think he is a great player with so much upside. He totally outplayed Tyson Chandler & I am not even surprised.

I think he's been doing great, in general,

However, I think he can do a better job protecting the rim than he did tonight, frankly. It almost seems like he's consciously avoiding contesting shots in hopes that he can gather the defensive rebound on a miss instead.

TC lead league last year in FG% and TS%. Your doing him some big time injustice putting him same breath as Asik offensively.

Of course! If he can further develop and become a semi-decent finisher, he would be close to all star caliber and a real leader of the team. I am not talking about 18-20 points offensive threat, (that would make him an absolute max player:)), but just Noah or Chandler level.

In terms of his offense, he sets good screens/picks, passes well, can lead fast breaks (?!?!?!), and occasionally make a ballet layup. He might have some trouble finishing around the rim. But still his game more than adequate considering his impact on defense/rebounding.
