Ignorant.......I expect no less from you. You haven't visted Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax. It is like visiting the U.S. and visiting backwoods Alabama or West Virginia and judging the rest of country on that.

So I've been reading FatTexxx's posts, and I've come to the following conclusion.

    1. He doesn't know what he's talking about

    Actually that's about it.

That's like people visiting Louisiana and saying the US sucks. Try Vancouver and especially Toronto, both are great cities. Stuff is expensive, but a ton of fun. I love how bigtexxx basically lives up to be the American stereotype of the world abroad (ignorant, brash, and dickish).

Spent the first 44 years of my life in Houston or within a few hours drive.

Spent the last year and a half in Calgary.

Over the last 15 years, visited all major metro areas in Canada, and quite a few of the smaller ones.

It's cold as **** in the winter, and it lasts forever, but the summers--short as they are--are so flipping glorious, it almost negates the winter.

Canadian Healthcare gets some bad press up here (in Canada itself), and I've largely avoided it because we're still insured in the states. BUT, the one time I had to use it......it really wasn't all that bad.

Alberta IS fortunate to be able to sell oil and gas to it's next door neighbor, but the local economies in Calgary and Edmonton are booming so much, it's ridiculous.

Friendliness and diversity are about on par with Houston. Less friendly than one might expect, and a lot more diverse than one might expect (for oil influenced cow towns).

In Alberta, they have about as much written in English and French as Texas has written in English and Spanish.

After a year and a half here, my biggest compare/contrasts with Houston are:

Good and bad weather is about the same.......just reversed for season.

Within an hour's drive from Calgary, I can be in some of the prettiest country in the world. Houston, not so much.

In Houston, I can eat world class food--fancy or hole in the wall--on just about every corner. In Calgary, you have to really HUNT for a good meal at a restaurant. Good food is here, but it's the exception, not the rule.

Vancouver is stunningly beautiful, and great place to visit, and probably settle down. I can't speak for much else since that's the only place in Canada I've been, but I left with a very good impression of the people, the city, and the overall demeanor of Western BC. I will say however, that they tend to view themselves as being greater on the global scale than they really are. With a GDP roughly 1/15th the size of the USA, you'd think they'd have a little more humility, but such is the world I suppose. Everybody thinks they could do better in another's shoes, but I digress. Either way, I had a very pleasant experience in Vancouver, and plan on going back to see the rest of the country.

I've visited Vancouver multiple times, and I think it's an incredible city. Absolutely stunning scenery, a vibrant downtown, great public transportation, very diverse, and just a great atmosphere. Haven't really been to other parts of Canada so can't speak for those places.
