Bob Weinhauer was the GM when they traded Brooks.

I was in college and we were all waiting for a Scottie Pippen trade (and Derrick Coleman was also on the block). Back then, to get the latest news, you were still watching SportsCenter. I remember after the Rockets traded Scotty Brooks, SC entered their report with: "Yes, we have had a Scotty trade!"

We were wondering if Robert Horry, Sam Cassell + picks/more could get Pippen.

Clyde Drexler was also on the block, though he was more of an afterthought since the feeling was Clyde was on the decline (he was rejuvenated in Houston). I remember it was reported at one point that Drexler had been traded to Seattle for Kendall Gill, a couple weeks before he was sent to Houston. That would have been bad. Quick search and here's the report back then:

When the Rockets got Clyde, it was a shock that they didn't have to give up Horry to get him. No one thought Otis Thorpe was on the block whatsoever, and the last thing Portland needed was a power forward. They definitely hooked Clyde up on that one.

6 Degrees of Mr. Bacon - Brooks replaced P.J. Carlisimo as head coach.

I remember when he was traded, they had him on the local news as he was leaving to Dallas. He was crying as he talked. I do think it was an emotional thing for him.

naahh ... being with the McHale family is more important than preparing for the OKC game.

But I'm sure we'll give them a big scare and might even upset them. It depends on how well Parsons can defend Durant.

Actually, adjusted for pace, it was only about 13.26 years.
