PhiSlamma, I appreciate your comments a lot and the time you obviously took to write them. Too bad many people either don't understand you, or just ignore your points and say what they want anyway.
It's really sad. Those people and the makers of the movie seem to like to pick on Asians and also turn them into movie monsters. I hope no one got beat up on the streets because of this movie. Sigh...
What a bunch of morons. Anyone who can change their whole view of someones heritage based on a movie is not a very smart individual. The movie Argo is another case of making Iranians look bad. Not all iranians are bearded terrorists so it's not easy to judge.
My personal opinion is hes not worth the contract he got and for a little bit more Dragic would have been far better value.
Easy, Jedster -- thanks. People understand what I'm saying. And I think the point has been made. Sometimes people think that they can fool you, or fool the audience. Then you come back and show them that's not the case, a second time, and that usually sets thing right. I think we've reached that point here with regards to the points I, and others, have been making. Say I'm a cop and I'm asked to go out and look for people who are texting while driving. I see a guy in his car and I caught him in the act. He knows I saw him, but I let him go. Now, is that guy going to seek me out to tell me "yeah, you caught me"? Is he going to write a letter to the editor to tell the public I caught him? Nope. But I know I caught him, he knows I caught him, and the witnesses on the scene know I caught him. I'm not here to bust anyone's chops just to show I can. We're all Rockets fans, or fans of players who play for the Rockets. I was just tired of the excessive Lin haterade, and people trying to play off the actual racism around the Lin situation. Now don't get me wrong, people absolutely should be able to criticize Lin's game without automatically being called racist. But to pretend that race doesn't come into some of the criticisms is, I think, naive, ignorant or willfully dishonest. Just like Cam Newton. Some people are criticizing him legitimately, but some people just seem to have that extra surge of hostility for him that seems a bit over the top. Warren Moon pointed that out as regards Newton, why can't someone point it out as regards Lin? Lin has had a lot of struggles this year, so far. I think his knee is not up to par, from an explosiveness standpoint and maybe even a lateral mobility standpoint. Just like 3 weeks ago he was saying he couldn't even get into the lane off the dribble because of the knee. That's not going to be all fixed in 3 weeks. Hopefully he'll play better soon. For the team, and for his fans. I'm going to be patient. I think it will still take some time for him. Like maybe a few months, possibly. The team looked great against the Knicks, let's hope they can take that momentum forward.
By the way, there are many "___ Only" fans around the league. The two players who come to mind for me are Kobe and LeBron. I know people who have followed LeBron from Cleveland to Miami, and I know a ton of people who, if the Lakers aren't playing well, will go into "Kobe needs to demand a trade so he can have a better chance to win a ring" mode. There is nothing unique or exceptional about "Lin Only" fans. This kind of thing happens all the time, in all sports. But I understand why long-time fans of the team the player is on at the moment might be a bit unmoved by the new crowd, or whatever.
It's not just a handful. There's the OSU Haters tumblr. There was that whole "Asians in the Library" fiasco last year. And these are events at universities, which are supposed to be full of the most open-minded young people that society has to offer. Asians didn't go crazy for Jeremy Lin just because they're a bunch of tribalistic jerks who loved to see one of their own figuratively stomp all over a bunch of Black and White athletes. No, there's long been an intense undercurrent of exclusion, devaluing, and ridicule of Asians in America. You ever run into a self-hating Asian, either in real life or online? It's pretty sad.
Social media just gives a lot of idiots platforms. It's not exclusively an Asian thing. Lebron got some pretty nasty tweets when he left Cavs. http://hellothereracists.tumblr.com/ . It's more of just being a minority thing.
Did those people really judge one specific race based on a friggin movie? So evolution isn't exactly right huh
What you said is correct. This lfw dude has clearly misunderstood your point. But on the other hand, he definitely has better written skill in the English language than you do based on your posts. So it's really hard to make a judgment here.
Yeah, this pretty much summarizes it. Though winning will shut people up. Remember when LeBron was "mentally weak"? LOL, I couldn't believe people saying that about the best player in the NBA. Bottom lin: Lin has to play better.
Hi I am new first post and all. This is very strange to see a Houston Rocket player get so much hate from "fans". I understand if Lin has been stinking up the joint for a whole season but its only been 13 games! This is the toughest league in the world and this Rockets team is one of the youngest so they deserve some slack. It takes time to gel and also this team has not really played together that long, so many new players. How can "fans" not be excited about this Rockets team? Each young player has the chance to become a great or very good player and we have a chance to see that happen in front of our very eyes! Also why is there so much love for Dragic and Lowry? They are playing on different teams now. If these "fans" love them so much they should go follow the Suns or Toronto! Seriously what the hell have these 2 players done for the Rockets? Dragic refused to sign here and Lowry had problems with the coach. Good riddance! I can't fathom why anyone would hate Lin other than jealousy or if they are Toney Douglas or Machados agent.
Since you like caps so much: HOW DO YOU PROVE RACISM? A LOT OF BLACK PEOPLE LIKE TO PLAY THE RACE CARD (I.E. SAS, ROB, MAYWEATHER) ALL THE TIME. SO ARE THEY TAKING PART IN CONSPIRACY TALK TOO?!?!? I like how you invoke the "as a person who has [been] discriminated against, trust me..." LOL. I can easily say, "as a person of Asian descent who HAS been discriminated against, INCLUDING BY BLACKS, I know when people are hating on you b/c of your race. And I see it all the time re: Lin. Anyway, funny stuff, your illogical argument. Like Bayless said, if you're a minority and claim racism, he steps off and accepts it b/c he has no idea what it's like. You should do the same.
you have got to be kidding me, lol. really? did I poke a stick at a hive of crazy bees, lol. fine dude. it's racism. happy?
