13. It would all be better if we gave that money to the government. They wouldn't spend it frivolously and taking money away from the rich would permanently result in a lower tax rate for the rest of us.
Go read up on governmental accounting and zero based budgeting and then come back in here with your smart ass responses. Government agencies are incentivized to waste money, especially at the end of the fiscal year, so they maintain their budget the next cycle. Governments being notoriously inefficient is a cliche for a reason...they have been very good at it for a long time.
In many places this is true. But why is it that medicare works so well - it costs less per person than an equivalent insurance plan. I think there are some places where gov't can introduce a service to help foster competition and prevent price gouging which is what is happing in insurance.
15. Jon Corzine did absolutely nothing worng, and should never be investigated or charged for any criminal conduct.
I'm shocked you could know the difference, because a governmental solution is damned near your mantra.
I have worked for governments my whole career; in many cases, at relatively high levels. I can assure everyone that there is no more wasteful organization in the whole world that the U.S. government. Local governments don't hold a candle to them, but they too can be amazingly inefficient. If there is not some "real" effort (not smoke and mirrors accounting tricks) to control federal government spending, the nation will collapse along with all entitlement programs. Americans just voted to "spend baby spend," and the Republican House seems clueless, so I am currently pessimistic.
Where as for you Ron Paul is merely a demi-god or at least a prophet of the one true Libertarianism Church.
I think it's kinda funny that some of you spend your days on internet message boards, watching sports, and playing video games and then complaining about rich people.
Or the rich people who spend their time on internet message boards, watching sports, and playing video games, then complain about poor people asking for handouts.
Ehh I like your unsaid but false insinuation that the rich all bust their asses. Most wealth in the USA is inherited..
Or the well off, but not rich, people who spend their time on internet message boards, watching sports, and playing video games, then complain about poor people asking for handouts.
Those of us that are relatively well off think that everyone should have an equal chance at that standard of living in America, at least some of us do. The chance to equal or better the standard of living their parents enjoyed as a member of the middle class, or the ability to rise to the middle class, or better, when coming from the working class and the poor of this country. That seems like a reasonable goal to me. It's one of the reasons I like Bill Clinton, and like Barack Obama. They care about the middle class. They care about upward mobility. They aren't bent on "saving" the rich from paying their fair share, which is obviously a big part of the agenda of the Republican Party. I'm fine with some of us having wealth. I just think we should all pay our fair share, and that means those that can afford to pay more in taxes, should, in my opinion. Congress shouldn't send this country back into a recession simply to keep income taxes for the wealthy below the rates they were at under Reagan and Clinton. The very idea is absurd.
