As a teen/college kid I worked at a 7-11 and hated scratch off's and lotto tickets. I hated the larger taboo behind them: gambling (a ticket a week is ok, but some people would do 20$+ twice a week) BUT- the powerball is at 425 mil. So screw it

    - would you guys take the cash you'd win in lump sum or over the years?

    - what would you do with that much money assuming you won all 425 mil?

The lotto ticket actually has a net positive value so it wouldn't be dumb to buy it.

True. But I used to see good rats and people older than your grandparents buying it with little money they had. Again, I'm more against gambling than the casual lotto ticket or scratch off

Def taking the lump sum. Less tax stuff to keep up with. Investing/CD'ing a large sum and buying BBBs (big booty b!tches) with the rest. Maybe pay off some student loans. Maybe.

I believe that everyone that wins the damn thing gets published. **** that.

BUT, if you get some trust or whatever, you don't get published.

I don't need every Joe Schmoe saying, what's up buddy.

yeah, I might have Texans and Rockets season tickets, and some suites, and some bimbos with me, but I don't think I would change. I'd keep it the same.

I'd have a lawyer grab that for me as to maintain my anonymity then I would probably opt for the payment over the years. I could probably survive off of 10-20mil/year for 20 years. Probably.

You would totally need us buddies around to help you spend it.

    I rest my case.

If I won the lottery, I would buy 250 acres of land. Succeed from the union. Declare war on the united states, surrender without firing a shot and collect billions of dollars in foreign aide each year.

Gross Prize $425,000,00030 average annual payments of $14,166,667 - 25% Federal Tax: $3,541,667
    Total: $10,625,000 a year/30 years

    Lump-sum cash: $278,300,000- 25% Federal Tax: $69,575,000
    Subtotal: $208,725,000

    $208 million on a low risk investment (5%) = 10.4 million.

Why would anyone take the average payments?

I'd pay off anything my immediate family needed to pay off. Buy a home, a car, and same for my immediate family. Invest a lot into Bonds/stocks/etc. Buy season tickets to all Houston sports teams for the rest of my life (try to get some partnership in the Rockets if possible.

Also charity if possible. I doubt Mosques would take money won from the lottery though.

With that kind of scratch I would buy 100,000 acres in Montana or Idaho, build a big Eco friendly house and hunt and fish and track for the next 40 years and then leave the land in a trust. Probably allow a commune on my land.

425 million... I'd put half in the bank/save and then spend the rest foolishly. Probably not even so much on myself but gf, family and buddies.

Lump sum. Pay the taxes first. Pay off my parents' mortgage. Put enough money saved for my sister and I to get Phds. Buy a place in France and Manhattan. If there's money left, I'd pay for my 6 closest friends to go to college, grandparents' mortgage, and give some scratch to the 1st cousins that aren't mooches.

    Then I'd travel the world.

Hate "lottery person" when I am at the corner store. These people take 10 mins to pick out their different combination of scratch offs, then they have to scratch them off right there at the counter when others are trying to check out.
