Having an 18 yo girl with a similar issue, I cried when I saw this yesterday. Too close to home.

So sorry coach. No words. Only thoughts and prayers

    Sad story.

I hope McHale use this as a motivation.

But this could go either way.

He might retire or he might stay and make a statement.

So sad. My prayers go out to him and his family. I can't even begin to understand what him and his family is going through right now.

There's a name for when you lose your spouse; widow.
There's a name for when you lose your parents; orphan.
But something so tramutic as losing your child has no name because it shouldn't ever happen.

I love the idea of donating to the Lupus Foundation. Thanks for the link.

If anyone is interested in signing a group e-card for Coach McHale, I have started one here:

    http://www.groupcard.com/c/ZUtsqO-7ETN/&utm_campaign=new_card&ec=oW4uVuPApXt

I hope I did it correctly as I never started one before....and I need to know some place to send it. I tried putting the Houston Rockets facebook page in as recipient but it wouldn't take. If anyone can help with that, I'd appreciate it.

Also, as I can't start threads, if someone could start a thread for me with the link and appropriate title so that this doesn't get buried here, that would be greatly appreciated.

And, if no one is interested, then I'll just cancel it.

    Thanks much!

Motivation for what? To perform better as a coach? Surely you jest.

Basketball is probably the last thing on his mind. There is nothing basketball related that can subtracted from this.

Horribly sad. Yeah I don't know if we're going to have Coach back this season. He really needs to be with the family for a few months and not worry about anything else. Sampson is not a godsend but the team will continue to develop with him regardless.

This is one of those situations where working won't make anything better. My prayers go to the Mchale family. I really don't want to hear anymore Mchale hate for a long time. You don't get to criticize a man who lost a daughter over nick nack stupid perceptions of what the team is doing or not doing.

I did say he could retire or stay.

I didn't say that this could motivate him now.

    *SIGH*

I know a lot of people say this and I'm sure it's true as he's thinking about a funeral.

But for McHale...basketball has been a good part of his life. While some will want to ignore it right now, it will have an affect on the team good or bad. I'm sure for a guy like Chuck Pagano to see his team working harder and winning games and being in a place they weren't supposed to means a lot to him. For a lot of the coaches and players their choice of sport means a lot to them and is basically their lives outside of their direct family. Not that winning games can ever replace the daughter he's lost though but I think a grip on reality can kind of put coaches and players more at ease at what they are doing and kind of lift pressure off of them. If you remember what it did for a guy like say Tiger Woods or Brett Favre.

So I can see the whole 'Motivation' aspect of it. I don't think it's quite motivation, I think it's the relief of pressure. Like the person realizes what they are doing is just a sport...it goes the other way though, if you look at Andy Reid. Many say that the loss of his son has really affected his ability to coach.
