Let's discuss your two reasons then. 1. Many Lin fans have already stated that they don't think he's a finished product, and they just expect him to improve over time. So this hype that you speak of (that he's a super player) comes from whom? The Lin haters? If not, then the Media? If it's the Media, why do you blame the Lin fans? And if they like Lin, why does it annoy others so much? 2. Admittedly the Lin fans make excuses for his poor play. But that's what fandom is. What kinda fans would hate on their favorite player? Similarly, Lin Haters pick on everything wrong that Lin does...repeating same old, same old...like his missed 3 pointer vs Miami (as if no one else has ever aired a 3 pointer), and dismissing or mocking his efforts in other parts of his game. And I would like to point out that you are mistaken that Lin has just the Asian angle. Like it or not, Lin has the Jesus angle as well. Additionally, he is such an outsider that he resonates with the NBA fans who like basketball but hate the thug culture, and the arrogant/self glorifying culture. That's why his fans are from everywhere, not just Asia.
Im more aggrvated with the LOF's.. I had no issues with the kid but these guys would make an excuse for the kid even if he averaged 5 and 5. I was rooting for NY not to sign Lin because I really wanted him back but the constant excuses and nut hugging for futility has rubbed me the wrong way. I judge my eyes, not a skip bayless-esque, tebow love infactuation of the kid
Those LOFs exist b/c of the LOHs who have a reverse orgasm every time Lin has a game with more than 2 TOs.
It's a useful strawman argument that allows some people to avoid the real issues. Much easier to tear down Lin for not being Steve Nash than it is to tear down Lin for not being a PG deserving of a fairly middle-of-the-road salary.
do you think lin is being misused in the offense? he never cried about it or used it as an excuse, you're making stuff up. and yeah, anyone who ever experienced racism has an absolute right to cry about it whenever they feel like it.
1. The media is to blame for putting the spot light to a player that had a great run of games. But the constant excuses coming from his fans is staggering. I think the flak for LOF's comes from the fact that basketball is a team sport. Rooting for one player to succeed and disregarded the rest of the team is annoying to some. They are just as bad as band wagon fans. 2. Personally I'm a fan of his. But I'm a fan because he's a Rocket. I'm not delusional in thinking he has done anything this year to deserve the contract given to him. The game you pointed out had less to do with the airball. It had to do with him missing a clutch shot. The last point you make that I bolded is just not true. I'm thinking you migrated from the New York Knicks Lin scene so you don't know the Rockets. Also the thug aspect makes me believe you are not American. He is not an outsider. There are plenty of great players that are not thugs or self centered.
There are no LOH. If he sucks his contract becomes hard to move and the rockets lose. I am going to guess most of us want the rockets to win which means Lin needs to play better.
Don't see how people can point to racism when we had an Asian player in Yao that everyone loved... I don't hate Lin. I just think Scott Machado is the best point guard the Rockets have on the roster...
April Fool's already?!?!?!? The Knicks broadcast chose the Play Of The Game from that Knicks/Rockets game was Lin stealing the ball from Melo's feet. That steal is why he is our starting PG. Scoring points does not win games, playing team ball win games.
Actually, it doesn't matter to me what you think I am. For the record though, I stated in another comment that I'm a Lin fan. So shrug, whatever that means to you. To the other point though, Lin IS an outsider. There are other posts in this thread that explains why much better than I can so you can look it up. Regarding the thug culture, I don't even know how you can miss that the NBA has been trying to clean up its image for years. If you don't know what I mean, then never mind...just ignore me on this point. Finally, do I mean that every player in the NBA other than Lin is arrogant or/and self centered? No. But gentlemanly players like David Robinson, Steve Nash and yes even Dwight Howard (pre-dwightmare) are the exception not the norm. Culture doesn't mean every player conforms to it...just that it's prevalent in the majority. Anyway, I don't really want to beat this to death. So yeah, if you disagree, it's fine. People see things differently.
It's really all of those things. But if I had to choose one, it would be the highly publicized big contract. Anytime players get signed to large contracts and don't perform at an All-Star level, they become highly criticized.
He's only being paid $5 mil this year. We just want him to perform like a capable starting PG. Games like v. the Knicks and the production he put up were starting PG's expectations. But the "hate" from some on here is b/c many fans (primarily the new ones) expect Lin to be a star.
Again the racist criers are ridiculous. Tracy McGrady heavily criticized in the past while performing much better than Lin is right now. Racism? Racism. Rafer Alston criticized heavily for having a low FG% and chucking. Racism? Racism. David Andersen criticized for being bad, as well as having a low rebounding rate. Racism? Racism. Lin criticized for having a poor shooting % and not being up to the level he was during that small stretch of games he had last season. Racism? Racism. I could go on and on. Fact is, your hero Lin is just like everyone else and is not immune to criticism. So GET OVER IT!
All of the above factor in bigtime ....... But, again....he is the posterchild for Les's philosophy which I and others diasagree with.
No I'm not making it up, unless you're going to call me out for the crying part being literal. He didn't literally cry, but he brought it up to the media numerous times that it was a negative factor. It was, however it was a positive factor too, so it balanced out and he can't whine about that anymore. Time to suck it up and play better. Also pretty much everyone experiences racism at some point unless they live in a very homogeneous society(where they're the majority), which America is not. Instead of crying about it we choose to ignore it and work hard, while being positive, since that's the only way to positively affect it. Responding to it is a waste of time, and responding to racism with racism only creates more hate.
