I hate the people claiming racism. I see so many people who were in huge support of Yao(why wouldn't you be? hating YOFs was one thing, hating Yao another), now in disdain of Lin.
Why you worried about other fans???? There is a fan for everything, even Hitler has a few fans left...
Tebow threw a sick clutch pass(and awesome catch by D.Thomas) in the playoffs against the Steelers in the first play of OT. I think Tebow at least deserves to start with the Jets, especially with Sanchez sucking. He deserves a fair shot, it's not even a fair comparison when Tebow hasn't started a single game since last season, and Lin is getting plenty of opportunity right now, and so far is not seizing the moment. If Lin hit a game winner in the playoffs I'd be plenty happy. For now I'd be happy enough with him shooting above 40%
Race is obviously a factor, why even deny it? Division 1 colleges rejecting him, the fact that he went undrafted and was cut multiple times , the hype & media attention he got when he broke out, the impending disdain in the aftermath of all that crap, the contract he got & the current backlash. Even 90% of his fans are only here because he's Asian. Race was a major factor in all of that. Doesn't excuse his sh*** play though.
Way too much emphasis is being placed on Lin's shooting. A PG's primary responsibility is running the offense and assisting his team mates. He is doing that well and his assists to turnover rate is 2:1 which is considered good. Also his defense (which includes steals and defensive rebounding) has been solid. Folks - don't judge him as a shooting guard (although an improvement in shooting would certainly help)!! Note: You also have to give him credit for humility and for not complaining about being put in a corner on offense where his passing and playmaking skills are wasted.
I'm talking specifically about the Rockets fan base, can't speak for everyone else. And like I've argued, as much as race has gone against him, it's gone just as much for him. He will make more money from China dollar deals than any player of similar talent/skill ever will. And I'm talking before he was playing terrible, not now.
One of old rockets fans defends for lin and does not cry for lowry and dragic, but not many. Hopefully more fans root for lin because he is rockets man now and stop crying for lowry and dragic. It is not lin's fault they left houston.
so basically you're saying racism is fine, cause if you ever get a chance to play and you put magic johnson/michael jordan numbers-break some nba records, you can make a lot of money from "china dollar deals"?
No, I'm saying it's worked for him just as much as it's worked against him. So it balances out. No where in that post does it say anything about racism being fine, just that I don't think he has the right to cry about it, or make it an excuse at this point. He could make an excuse years ago but not now. The animosity is towards the FO/owner for botching that situation, throw money at Lowry and it would have been fixed, give Dragic his 4th year and he would still be a rocket. You can't tell me Lowry would continue to whine after getting a good deal and talking it out with McHale like grown men.
America was built on a foundation of genocide of the Native Americans and slavery of Africans. It owes it to the world to be a diverse nation.
I think Jose is saying that racism is okay so long as one extraordinary exception comes along once in a while.
so he make more money from country of his same race and he deserve to be treated badly by other race?
Don't forget the mass murders in Hells Canyon of Chinese gold miners... A bunch of those you haven't heard about or read in your history books...
LOL. Tim Tebow, even at the height of his play, was a god-awful QB who some strung together magical broken plays. In contrast, Jeremy Lin at his apex was a complete and elite PG whose game was fundamentally rock-solid. Tebow was already ordained a demi-god in his college days and he was already a national celebrity before he entered the NFL. He's so bad right now that even teammates are ripping him in the press. Yet Timmy doesn't care b/c his "values" and "all-American" looks will carry him much farther (perhaps to Hollywood or TV) than his talent ever will. Tebow can laugh all the way to the bank with Hollywood starlets on his arm, and he won't have to worry about the Denver Broncos publicly disparaging him for no good reason and wanting to rip his head off should they ever play.
Very well written article that captures the spirit of why so many people are calling racism. To a smaller extent, it's also why Chandler Parsons was dismissed as a real talent earlier this year. But to be fair, I have read many comments here and I think we really shouldn't put all the Lin haters into one big group. There are those who dislike Lin because of racism, and there are those who dislike Lin because they don't like his game. You can generally tell who they are because generally, the racist ones write irrationally negative Lin comments, and you get the sense of jealousy from them and also the feeling that they hope for his failure. The ones who dislike Lin about his game will talk about what they don't like about his game and keep other aspects out of it. Sometimes it's a fine line, but you can generally detect it.
It's an insult to Jeremy Lin to compare him to Tim Tebow. Tebow was NEVER a good (or even decent) QB, unless you count "winning" as a skill. But by that standard, Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer are great QBs. And what do you mean he hasn't lived up to "his hype"? You don't get a superstar player for $8 million, maybe not even a star unless you have a great GM or the player has a terrible agent. Also, it's only been 12 games so you have no idea if he'll live up to "his hype" or not yet.
Your race doesn't entitle you to be a self-appointed spokesperson for millions of people, by the way. Also, how did people here treat Yao before he became an established All-Star? I am genuinely curious about how people viewed him when he was still all hype, and when he struggled as a rookie?
Yao was good off the bat and houston fans loved him because he was a legit superstar who lived upto his contract untill injuries curtailed his magnaficent career. He was also taken apart when he was struggling so lin fans need to remember were not haters anyone who struggles is fair game.
Just because I said I'm Asian, doesn't mean I'm making myself a spoke person for Asians. I wouldn't want to recommend that job either. Failed Logic. Same as "they hate on Lin, so all of them are racists".
