Bumping this thread. Ppat has now put on a good run recently and has been hitting his groove. He has had many successful postups, three-point shots from the baseline, money on the jumper and shooting well. His rebounding numbers have gone up and he has been active in contesting shots, despite what the numbers say (watch the games to see this). He has been much more aggressive, shown when he drove hard against the tough bulls front line. One thing people take for granted is his Bball IQ. The Rockets turn the ball over a lot as a team, but Ppat is only averaging 1.3 TPG. His defence has still be great as usual. I think it is time for people to stop blaming him.
Literally just HOURS in my Patrick Patterson Is "Patsquatch" Group, I wrote the same kinda things Quoting myself So my thoughts echo YOUR thoughts
Ignorant post. Dirk has had multiple seasons averaging 9.9 to 9.7 rebounds a game, he has deadly range past the 3pt line. I know you aren't comparing Pat to him because that would be the definition stupidity. The occasional block does not mean a player is a shot blocker and just for the record Pat does not consistently block out.
Last game in the bulls, Patterson did an exceptional job boxing out. At the game, I saw several instances where is boxing out led to either his rebound or Parsons and fast break. Greg Smith and Asik on the other hand...
I don't know what changed in the Bulls game but he played like a big man. I saw him throw his body in the mix, post up, and absorb/dish out contact. He even got to the free throw line. Let's hope it all just clicked for him, and the change is permanent.
What in the hell game were you watching. The boxing out last night was beyond pathetic and Pat was clearly one of the main culprits. Please feel free to praise every part if Pats game last night except boxing out. The Bulls had 16 offensive rebounds and I sincerely hope you don't find that as acceptable. By the way, last nights game was 2Pats best as a pro IMO but do not say he boxed out well because that would be a tremendous lie.
I would trade him for a backup SG to a team that needs a PF. Trade him to the Bobcats for Henderson. He's a solid backup for Harden.
In fairness, the Bulls are a good offensive rebounding team and Thibodeau really stresses crashing the offensive glass. They're ranked 10th this year, but in the last couple seasons they were top 5.
All that being true it's still no excuse for not boxing out. With out so many second chance opertunities for the Bulls last night the game is not even close.
If he can pull down close to 5 defensive rebounds a game, I think he'll make a pretty good role player for us. Defends well and hits the open jump shot - that's not too bad. If he can start doing stuff in the post for us too, that's gravy.
I know it was beyond pathetic, but it was Asik, Smith, and Morris that were the culprits. I was on the sideline/lower bowl, I could see clearly when Asik would get under the basket and could not get the rebound, and I could see clearly that Smith was just standing when they made 3 consecutive baskets off misses in the 3rd quarter. Luol Deng also abused Morris on the boards. I know PPat was not perfect in that game, but he sure was better than everybody else on the boards (except Parsons).
Well, if his shooting continue to improve, we might have ourself a bargani lite. And seeing the time and space he need to set up for his post plays, I would rather have him spacing out and shoot.
How about 5 - Asik 4 - T. Jones 3 - Patterson 2 - Parsons 1 - Harden And the Rockets can have the biggest starting 5 in all of basketball?
No. It was the whole damn team Wednesday night. Do you know how many times Boozer got an offensive rebound, tip out or put back? Asik was guarding Boozer early in the game but not later in the game. The team as a whole including 2Pat was really bad at getting a body anyone waring a Bulls uniform.
I agree with you, it was a terrible performance on the defensive glass. But most of the second chance points they had (they were excruciating) were from Asik and Smith, especially Smith when they got 3 consecutive baskets while he was standing around at the end of the 3rd. I wish I could go over the tape to show how PPat actually boxed out well. But again, nobody was perfect, and I am sure that he probably missed an assignment or two. Over the course of the game, it is not as significant.

But other than the comically bad Bargnani he's the worst in the league. So yeah it's a major problem right now. And we're missing a lot of shots, so rebounds are plentiful.
simply put J Lin and Chandler Bang are good rebounders for their positions because they simply GO AFTER THE BALL P Pat may go through the motions of going after the rebound (ex. boxing out, positioning, etc.) but doesn't really go after the ball. Great rebounders are actively chasing the ball down. PPat is waiting for the ball to come to a place where he can snatch it.
