Torocan is right. You have to judge him based on that 8 million average cap hit as it is space that could have been used for another player. I do agree with you that anybody saying 11 games into a 82 game season that he is overpaid is full of knee jerk.

This is the tricky situation created by poison pill provisioning, the problem that I have is judging Lin's performance so far seem to have rather low value because the sample size is so small, no matter its 25 games or 11 games.

You are interpreting this issue from a cap management stand point which is not what I wanted to point out. The fact that by using the average figure to judge Lin's performance so far you will have to weigh in year 2 and year 3's salary without considering the possible improvement from his game.

Then again, there would be no argument had there not be a poison pill to begin with. Thus the tricky situation.

Wish I could make gif's, then I would post a gif of continuously clapping followed by thunderous applause. I have come to expect nothing less than the highest quality post from you, a voice of fair reasons backed up by impeccable stats.

I swear some of these long time Rox fans are either in Denial or Delusional

pining for past PGs or worried about stats this season...

when it is obvious to even casual fans this team was being blown up and still has been being blown up for a superstar player in 3 years time...

casual fans and even the Rox management knew.... that as good as the Rox team was "last year..."

they were never going to win a title...

I'm not totally convinced Lin is a superior defender to Dragic due to the oFG%. IMO, Dragic did a better job in defense than Lin last year, and they are about the same this year. (I'm not a huge fan of the current NBA stats due to the lacking of validity and reliability.)

The main point of my post was to show that it is patently false to think that Dragic is a superior defender to Kyle Lowry he just isn't. Kyle Lowry is one of the better defensive PGs in the NBA. In terms of Lin vs Dragic Synergy data after 11 games has to fall victim to the caveat of a small sample size. Also synergy does have flaws in there system.

Overall point is that Lin is a lot better at defense than he was giving credit for last year. I think right now Rocket fans are realizing that.

thats because last year the Knicks did a lot of switching...

Melo admitted he and other players did not play 100% because they did not like coach D

thus you had Statue... oops Stat... playing horrible pick and roll defense..

when Coach D left Amare miraculously started to play better defense...

pick and roll defense for a big like Parsons is easy to learn

when their big is picking your guard... you step up on the other side of their big

and force their point guard to go around you....

while giving your guard a chance to recover, go under the pick and cut the opposing guard off...

    better option than switching...

Hey c'mon man. Dragic doesn't like to play here. What can we do? Even before the negotiation for his contract, he is ALREADY PACKING his Dynex TV

I don't know of any long time Rox fans who thought last year's team was championship material. Ever since Yao left town, Rox was left without a dominant superstar to build around. You have no idea what life was like for Rox fans over the past few years. Then again, you are probably one of those NYK fans who followed Lin over here. Yeah, you know what it is like to root for a team that has fans debating whether or not team should tank.

This Lin triggered mania is fun to watch but you guys need to cut back on your unbridled enthusiasm. The last two players who brought a huge number of new Rox fans to this forum did not bring back a trophy to Houston.

    I doubt Lin would.

Well i would love for him to go into MSG and beat the knicks but he will be judged by where we are at the end of the season.....some will reflect on those 2 games i think, but its his job to lead this team to wins.....if the rockets play better d they can beat anyone. They are scoring about the same as the knicks....

maybe tonight things change and he gets his confidence...scores 18, that would be great....go on a run

would lo ve to see him and the rockets beat the knicks on friday

I agree with the points you made, including your general comment about the Synergy system being flawed.

I will say straight up that Synergy's analysis of category-specific play types is totally jacked and has little merit. The most obvious example is that last year Synergy ranked Amare 15th in the entire league in PPP for guarding the PnR roll man. Read that again, and enjoy the laugh. LMAO.

With each specific category type, the sample size gets smaller and, more importantly, complex interactions like PnR are attributed by Synergy to the defense of individual players in rather arbitrary ways.

Individual defense is one of the most difficult things for stats to measure. But, in my opinion, wrinkles in the overall PPP stat probably get smoothed out with a large enough sample size to make the numbers worth considering alongside other indicators.

However, no one should take too seriously the category-specific breakdowns given by Synergy.

Signing dragic would not have stopped its from getting Howard. Also, the Asik offer was made while we were still in the hunt for Howard. Get your facts straight.

I dont think I have seen as much FAIL by a single player in limited minutes as what I saw from Jeremy Lin in the second quarter against the Bulls.

Missed shots after missed shots. Complete bricks.

    Turnovers after turnovers.

    Getting abused on defense.

Seriously, he did everything perfectly wrong.

Lin throwing up a other stinker of a game. I just keep hoping and wishing he will have a breakout game.

I dont think Lin will be able to bring a trophy...either never did...

    but

I am not delusional enough to believe any of the past guards of the Rox would have won a Chip either...

or that this team wasnt blown up to get Howard...

but some long time Rox fans are acting like Lin replaced your PGs because of some hype.... and now you aint going to win a chip
    this year
