Please take note that Royce isn't thinking about this as logically as you are, so you're hypothesis is more than likely false.

I guess I'm the only one who made some bad decisions when I was 21. :) I can't speak for Royce, but I can speak as someone who's dealt with GAD & OCD. Your decision making process isn't always rational.

The truth is that Royce is going to be healthy if he plays basketball or not. Basketball might be triggering a physical response, but that can be overcome. I wouldn't have personally started a twitter-thon, but everyone is different. There's also a generation gap between Royce and myself. I just find it a little weird that every tweet he sends out is being used to judge his character. Who has OCD again? :)

Reading this article, it made me wonder something.....

....if Dez Bryant were to seek counseling, and it was discovered that he suffered from the same "mental illness" as Royce (highly possible considering that GAD, OCD and even PTSD are not uncommon amongst people who have experienced some type of trauma in life, whether it be emotional or physical), would he get the same type of sympathy from the public as Royce has?

Up to this point, it seems that the general media consensus is that Dez is just a "dumbass" for all of his shenanigans. Seemingly, though, Dez has had a much tougher upbringing so it would be expected that he too suffers from some emotional instability in the form of GAD or whatever.

This is just one example of an athlete that has had to overcome some extremely tough circumstances, however, when they get in trouble without an official "diagnosis" of mental illness they get categorized as immature instead of someone who just needs "sympathy and understanding".

It's an embarrassment that this guy hasn't been cut yet. Do the Rockets have any self respect at all? Seriously, is Les so poor that he will allow this fiasco to continue just to get back 15k a day?

Basically, White is saying that he is going to do what he wants to do rather than what his bosses suggest would be in his best interest. I might agree with him if he seemed to have any idea of how to best cope with his problems and make actual progress. Truth is, "manning up", "doing what's right", and making money are not mutually exclusive and if he was handling this the right way, he could do all three at the same time.

    You cannot be serious.

They aren't going to cut a talented first pick who they knew had issues because he has issues.

It wouldn't surprise if they're deeply embarrassed by all this. He's been portraying himself as Erin Brockovich in front of tv news cameras. If the Rockets cut him now they'd be seen as the uncaring and evil corporation.

there are other means to deal with it
See what we did with the 09ers

If he can't get on the court.... he is trade filler material regardless of his issues

But who would take him? You'd have to add something. If it takes two 2nd round picks to get rid of Brad Miller's contract (only 1 mil guaranteed), then how easy would it be to get rid of a Royce White who has 3 mil+ guaranteed over two years and who's a PR headache.

It's just disappointed that we took a risk based on how was available. He had the ball in his hands to contribute, if not he was a very high risk. That is the front office challenge, they do a very poor job of analyzing risk/reward when giving big contracts, draft picks, and playing time.

How come we drafted the player with the "anxiety" mental illness?

I'd rather we get stuck with the player with the "crazy-don't-F-with-me" mental illness...a la Vernon Maxwell or Ron Artest.

Not sure what is wrong with these tweets...nothing aimed at the Rockets.

What's wrong with it? He needs to just shut the **** up, get some help, which the Rockets are attempting to obtain for him (and he keeps refusing) and try to keep his job, and he isn't, that's what's wrong. No one wants to read his "tweets." They want to read that he's busy getting help, working with the team, practicing, and doing anything else the team that drafted him wants him to do. The team with 7 figures invested in him. The team he's disrespecting every time he "tweets" his crap.

This f****r needs to tone it down. I know he doesn't really know how, and he probably thinks he had carte blanche to say or do whatever he wants, but I'm sure he's twisting Dr. Fink's words a bit; probably more like, "It's difficult for someone else to walk in your shows", and this becomes, "See?! They just don't know how to support me!"

I think a first round pick has a guaranteed three year contract. You can trade him or send him to the D league, but you can't cut him.
