He's not a liability, I'd say he's above average. Smart, fundamentally sound, fairly mobile and his toughness is elite and infectious. He lost some athleticism because of the knee injury, but he still makes up for it in other ways.
By most metrics, the Pacers are at the top of the league defensively right now, and I feel that without West they'd be much lower, because Hibbert is soft as a marshmallow and mentally fragile, and I suspect that frontcourt would collapse without West.

We don't need David West. We got TJ, waiting to happen.

I think that idea captures White's trade value well.
I don't know if the Bucks take it, not sure they'd want to mess with a good thing right now. Udrih has a role in their rotation. Aldrich would be a 5 min / game guy there, at best.

As for White trades in general, I don't think the Rockets should force it. I think they'd have to add money/asset to get rid of White right now, and I don't think there's urgency to do it. Wait these two years, maybe he'll wake up, or maybe he'll do enough for his trade value to grow.
His cap hold isn't that big, it probably won't have crucial impact on your free agency plans. Keep in mind, even if you trade White for an expiring, you'd still be subject to ~500k roster cap hold this summer, so you only open up ~1.1 mil by getting rid of him.

i think the Rockets would consider someone like West in one scenario only - if you end up with an elite perimeter prospect in the draft. At the moment there seems to be just one of those this year (Shabazz), and you might have to win the #1 / trade up to get him.
West is the prototypical 'veteran leader' that young teams like to have around. Someone who can still play, high character, vocal, plays the right way, won't back down to anyone on the other team and just does his best to help your team win in any way necessary that night.
If you have your two 'core' guys, it makes a ton of sense to add someone like that until 2015 when Lin/Asik expire. You get to raise the kids in proper winning environment, and then in 2015, you have a ton of cap space to go after that last piece (Love?). It's similar to what OKC was looking to do with their Tyson Chandler trade.
That would be a sensible scenario. But that's if you get lucky in the draft. Until you have some semblance of a core, you can't afford to go after West types.

Anyway, I think West will stay in Indiana.

The Atlanta Hawks are quickly going nowhere and their core of Smith, Teague and Horford just don't seem to be getting it done. They would probably never do this trade and try their luck in the offseason with cap space, but nonetheless doesn't hurt to pick up the phone.

    To Atlanta
    Royce White
    Terrence Jones
    Donteas Motiejounas
    Jeremy Lin

    To Houston
    Al Horford
    Jeff Teague

    That leaves the Rockets with

    Teague / Douglas
    Harden / Delfino / Cook
    Parsons / Morris
    Horford / Patterson
    Asik / Smith / Aldrich

I think you can't get Horford without giving up Harden. I'm not sure Harden alone would be enough, either. Horford is a young, complete player on a great contract.
Also, they'll have 30 mil + this year to resign Josh Smith and add the 3rd piece, or multiple pieces. That's assuming they keep Teague -- if they let him go, it's more like 36 mil. They are in a pretty good position.

It's very rare for legit playoff teams with a young core to get blown up.

    Pat Patterson
    ...for...
    Evan Fournier

    our spare parts for theirs...

Coach Carl should get the best out Patterson - Fournier is not going to see much PT behind Andre Iguodala, Jordan Hamilton, Wilson Chandler in front of him with Kenneth Faried now getting time at the three. PLUS we need a young gaurd to groom now that Lamb is gone.

(sorry for posting 2x; I cleaned it up so one could read it)

Package Patterson and Morris for Amare Stoudamire?

Package Patterson and Morris for Amare Stoudamire?

I mean obviously injuries are a concern but with that, we can start amare, have him play the ball and take stress from harden every night, harden would not mind passing. And that way we xan make minutes for Terrence jones who imo is star material, just needs time.

    Lin/Douglas
    Harden/Delfino
    Parsons
    Stoudamire/Jones
    Asik

    as our rotation.

That's way too lopsided for us. A more even trade would be for Andrew Bynum

Don't want that toxic contract. Stat is a terrible fit for this team. He probably only has this season and maybe one more productive year left in him, and he's already fading fast. The Rockets won't be good until at least next year, maybe later, so what's the point.

Also Random Trade Ideas is that way ---->

Bad knees, bad eyes, bad back, bad salary do not want. I love Amare I have been watching him since his Phoenix days. A young healthy version of Amare is what we need. The current version will just kill the cap space & isn't THE MAN.

That's terrible. Stat is the worst contract in the league. Morris and Patterson are both rotation players. Today's Stat is as much the Stat of Phoenix as today's Allen Iverson is as much the AI of Philadelphia or Tracy McGrady is the T-Mac of Houston.
