Wow, the weak draft screwed us over. I thought Joseph was for sure going to stay, that Thompson was 50-50 and Hamilton was going to declare. Sucks to be a longhorn fan
Starting 5 next season? Myck Kabongo J'Covan Brown Sheldon McClellan Jonathan Holmes Alexis Wangmene I didn't realize how devastating a loss Shawn Williams (transferred to Arkansas) was until I looked at the depth chart/incoming class. Jay Bilas on the aftermath of NBA declarations -- "no team has lost more than the Longhorns":
Can't believe no one has posted in this thread in over a year... But UT just lost to a division 2 squad (Chaminade) Chaminade has 1200 students, total. Embarrassing performance. Let a Taiwanese Freshman on Chaminade light them up for 16 pts. Lookin like Jeremy Lin out there.
lol. I watched part of the game. It was an embarrassment, and I'm not sure that even with Myck Kabongo, they would've won. Team is very young, lacks leadership, and I feel like it's going to be a long year. Going to need a go-to scorer, I think that can be either Julian Lewis or Sheldon McClellan, or both.
Dammit, this is going to be a painful season. The only 2 upperclassmen on the team are Dick & Melchionni, both walk-ons, and Barnes currently has 0 commitments in the '13 class. This core will likely stay intact for the next 3 years. Barnes won't have to retool the roster/cope with drastic change like he was forced to do in the past with the departures of guys like Durant, Aldridge, Bradley, J-Ham, TT, and Joseph. They'll have a great opportunity to mesh and establish an identity over the next 3 years, rare amongst big programs nowadays due to the one-and-done craze. A starting 5 of Felix, McClellan, Papapetrou, Holmes, and Ridley could be very scary down the road. Prince Ibeh has great potential, as well.
Yeah, it can be rough. 17 TOs to 10 ASTs in a double-digit loss to a Div. II squad is not acceptable. Barnes' seat is heating up.
hope so hes a baddie. definitely other coaches that can do more with the talent we get even if they leave in 1-2 years
Baylor fan here, but I fully agree with you. This roster is RAW, but very talented. Especially on the wing. That, and Ridley has the body to dominate the paint if he puts the work in to progress. Reminds me of Renardo Sidney from Miss St, though he probably has a better head on his shoulders. The only thing that seems like a long term concern is the PG position. Felix looks to have great court vision, but other than him they really don't seem to have anyone capable of running an offense. Even when the team starts to gel, he might be forced to play way too many minutes. Anyway, I hope Cameron Ridley doesn't put it together. That kid would break our long, lanky front courts if he gets a post game
Another loss.. this time to USC in OT. There just aren't very many scoring options with this team. Going to be tough to score until at least Myck comes back.
Demoralizing loss to UCLA. Up 61-53 with 3 mins left with UCLA looking confused and disoriented. Then they came totally unglued and give up an 11-0 run. UT basketball hasn't been the same since the wheels fell off after the 17-0 start in 09/10. Might be time to let Rick Barnes go and give someone else a chance.
been saying that for roughly 10 years. he's an awful coach. he can thank t.j. ford for single-handedly extending his career indefinitely.
Ignoring the fact that the team is horrible, the LHN has completely destroyed interest in UT basketball. Being unable to watch the first two months of the season makes it difficult for even the hardcore fans to really involve themselves until January.
