I think Utah would have to strongly consider it. I take it if I'm Utah, seeing how they are rotting Burks at the end of their bench for some reason.

But it's a bad deal for Atlanta. I'm not sure they'd trade Jeff Teague alone for those assets, and I don't know that they aren't going to resign Josh Smith.
It all depends on their plan. If Atlanta can't get CP3/Dwight, will they take the season off and tank for Wiggins? That's the only scenario where that deal makes sense. But I doubt that's what Atlanta wants to do. I suspect they'll resign Smith/Teague and try to add another solid starter in free agency, maybe someone like Mayo.

Also, what's step 2 for Houston here? If you don't resign Jefferson/Teague, it's a waste. If you resign them, then the deal is a nobrainer, but that makes Houston a 45-50 win team with little flexibility till 2015. I think Morey would jump at that deal, though, with Motiejunas included.

I dont see why atlanta wouldnt do it... they pretty much know that jsmoov isnt gonna resign as hes wanted out for a while... teague is nothing more than a bench player/role player for atlanta... why not cash in on smiths expiring for assets and picks?i really dont see them reaigning eithet player whether they trade or keep em...

For houston its having extra flexibility for part 2... thia is about part 1 added expirings and flexibility... 18mill expiring plus whatever cap space we have and options we can decline or accept... we could add a max player this off-season with this trade or sign a quality player or two(like asik and lin) for future trade assets... its a typical morey-esque trade...

well, if you are doing that deal just to add a little bit of cap space (no intention to resign either of those players), then in essence, you are salary dropping Patterson + Motiejunas (White), two cheap prospects, and you are also paying a 2nd rounder to get rid of them. I don't think that's a good idea.

That deal is a win if you intend to resign Jefferson/Teague, though.

re Atlanta, Jeff Teague is pretty solid, I think he'd start for the Rockets. They'll look to get Chris Paul, but if he's not available, I think they are keeping Teague. And Smith was pouting and asking for a trade last season, but he publicly supported the team and took those demands back once they traded Joe Johnson. Has he asked to be traded again? I might've missed it.

Im thinking we do that deal to make us more competetive this year and hopefully make thw playoffs(no matter what you think or want; morey will try his hardest to reach playoffs)... that experience is invaluable for this young team... teague is a good player and takes care of our backup pg spot(i dont see him starting here as he is behind devin harris in atl)... we could have interest in resigning either player(the whole lin and asik idea i tossed up)... they could resign aljeff to a cheaper and more flexible contract going forward and would be a valuable piece in obtaining that other all-star... teague is decent but not all that in a league of pgs... hes essentially added expiring and fills the need of a backup pg...

maybe smith backed the team after they traded jojo and he hasnt came out against him since, but he wants out and always has... and i think atlanta has finallu realized a core of.jojo smith and horford isnt good enough... they already got rid of jojo... that leaves smith and horford... do you think keeping them together gives you that shot to compete for a title or do you think its time to move on if your atlanta? I say move on... well you have horford under contract for a few years and instead.of risking let smith walk for free why not gain a few assets? Their ultimate.goal is pairing cp3 and dwight(highly unlikey) but worth a shot...

On a side note if i was atlanta, i would trade horford for some great prospects and expirings and go into the off-season with serious serious cash and dreams of recreating the heat... reach out to cp3 and dwight about teaming up and tell them about the possibility of resigning jsmoov along with said assets/prospects from the horford trade... and if you strike out it signals a complete start over rebuild...

Teague is not behind Devin Harris in Atlanta.

The thing with CP3/Dwight, that's what July moratorium is for. You make a run at CP3, Howard, and when that fails you resign Smith. It's very unlikely they could get either of those guys, anyway.

If a team is going to be trading for multiple players that put them over the limit, they must waive players off of THEIR OWN roster first before the trade to keep their roster at 15. If Royce White is cut, or bought out before trade season then it might not be an issue, but if not you would have to cut someone like Machado first to make the deal happen.

Btw, kind of off topic, but that Atlanta trade idea got me thinking. Wouldn't something like Al Jefferson + 5-8 million-ish 3pt shooter (JJ Redick? Mayo?) make a ton of sense for the Hawks this offseason?

I think CP3/Howard is pretty much out of the question at this point, seeing how well the Clippers look. CP3 won't leave that situation, same thing with Dwight.

I think if you go big with Smith/Horford/Jefferson, you could hide Jefferson defensively. Add a well shooting backcourt. It's an interesting team that could give fits for the Heat.

Mayo is really finding new life in Dallas. I think he stays there long term, but I get what you are saying. The Rockets need a "unconscious scoring guard" type off the bench. You might be correct, but you really can't force the issue there, or get capped out paying someone like Nick Young to play that role.

My prediction is that Morey is going to go after these guys Smith/Jefferson/Millsap in free agency, but its going to be a low ball offer. I dont think Morey is the type to throw big time dollars at a player like that. None of them make Houston a contender. They just help win a few more games. Still I think at the trade deadline, Morey will be active, and this Summer he might make a pitch to come for less.

This team is in rebuild mode, and the trade market with upcoming star players is pretty dried up. I think its going to come down to someone already on the roster really stepping up this season and in the Summer, or lucking out in the draft.

However, Morey still needs to keep his options open and stay flexible. Players are going to want to come here in the offseason. Its just a matter of it being a good fit(young star or discount veteran tutor), and the price being right.

Al Jefferson is not going to take this team anywhere. We need another star player which Al Jefferson is not.

Yep. I was talking about the Hawks (just a random Hawks thought, didn't know where else to post it and didn't want to start a thread). When it comes to the Rockets, I agree, those are all great points.

Btw, it's interesting how much Al Jefferson perception has changed here lately. A couple months ago, this board was very pro-Jefferson.

    Cook, Aldrich, White & cash ( 1/2 of White's buyout )
    ...FOR...
    Udrih & Lamb

Bucks - get a look at a center they could use long term if they wanted to sign him, a shooting gaurd, and a no risk flier on the HOPE of White with a new start plus cash for a point gaurd that is not being used and 2nd round shooting gaurd thats not playing at this time.

Rockets - get a vet back-up point that fills a stat sheet and Lamb --> RGV

It's changed in the right direction. Jefferson never has been or never will be a star.

How about Lin, Cook, Patterson, Douglas, Delfino, and maybe some future picks to Utah for Millsap, Mo Williams, and Alec Burks. Trade Lin before the rest of the league figures out what his true skill level is and bring in a solid PG, and a very good PF(both with veteran experience). Those are the main pieces we're missing for a playoff run.

Guys, we need a rugged athletic power forward with size, we've been missing one for years!!! I was banging on about it when Yao was in town and I still think that's what this team needs.

A nasty, big, rebounding grabbing, elbow swinging, mean dunk smashing POWER forward.

I present to you DeMarcus Cousins!!!

Trade whoever, apart from Lin, harden, parsons, asik, morris.....
