It's not like Lin shot 45% before. He was at 33% pre AS and dropped to 30% post AS, as his attempts went up. He's at 25% now, but if he had hit just one more three this year, he'd basically be at 30%. Two more and he'd be back to last year's average. He just needs to get his legs back too 100% and get used to shooting standing still. 0 for 2 looks bad, but one make turns that into great shooting.
i have to agree with the OP. i've liked what i've seen from lin for the most part so far. whether his poor shooting and lack of confidence on the offensive end has been due to poor usage by the coaching staff or his knee injury or both - i dunno. but his stint with NY last week does indicate what he's otherwise capable of offensively. and the rest of his game (setting up the offense, passing in transition, rebounding, on-the-ball D) has looked very good. especially his ability to find the open man and create open shots for teammates. this is the one skill i think he definitely excels at over lowry or dragic. he may never end up as good as either of those guys overall, but with the right pieces around him he still be a very successful PG.
Since you want to use sample size let us look at his time in NY. I would really consider linsanity to be from the nets game were he burst onto the scene to the miami game were he got embarrassed. So do you want to use the larger sample or the smaller sample? I would be happy with lin if he averaged 14/7 @ 45/35/85
I would be elateed if he could get his FG% to 44. I don't think it will be unattainable because so far he has only taken around 9 shots per game. It's not like he got hot from shooting three pointers during the linsanity stretch. He was successful finishing high percentage shots as well as setting up his teammates within the flow of the offense. That's why I have confidence he will get it together eventually barring injury.
I don't see anything wrong with a POINT GUARD scoring 14 points. if he averages 10 assists like he is tending to do, and since we are looking at small sample sizes, it seems like he will average that. i'd take 14 pts/5 rbds/2 steals/10 assists/3 turnovers over a point guard that scores 19 and averages 6 assists. Lin just has to get his fg % up and by not taking long shots. It's not his game.
The team is still figuring out their offense(and defense). Jeremy is picking his spots, taking long shots right now because that is what the defense is designed to give us. He can make these shots when in a rhythm, but not consistently as a spotup shooter exclusively. Eventually, the team will figure out how to get Jeremy the kinds of shots he is more comfortable taking and making. It is a natural process for a young team.
It seems like you yourself didn't really account for this stuff when you predicted the Rockets would win 45-50 games.
You can't predict everything to a T, but you can analyze things as they happen, rationally and objectively. Without merely concluding, "He sucks!" But you are right, I expected him to fit in a bit more seamlessly right off the bat. Probably only 40-45 wins at this rate.
I don't think you got his message right. He don't care whether you like a certain player or not. His message is for people to quit making conclusion based on the very few information available. As a fan, we should hope for the best and quit putting down our own players. It's pretty weak to make some assumptions based on the few data available.
Says who? "We should hope for the best? That's a stupid statement. The fans basically pay the players salaries. Do you pay your light bill and hope for the best that the power company keeps them on? No! You expect results. If you don't get what you expect, you call the company to complain.
Nothing discussed in this thread has anything to do with Jermey Lin's jumpshot. Fix that and you fix him and he's worth the contract. Everything else he's doing is fine.
honestly clutch...id love to see a break down but it is a great majority that blindly attack lin...I wasnt a big bring lin to town guy id have preffered dragic. but now that hes here give him the benefit of the doubt and support him...i get tired of seeing supposed fans trash him all day. Not that this is the greatest thread in the world...but the OP is absolutely correct in what he is saying and no not everyone feels like that way he is making them out to feel... but it is great majority of the posters on here. Heres to patience and I am hoping lin breaks through this slump and earns every bit of that contract.
I am not sure its his jumpshot...I think its just lack of confedence...I dont know how many people played ball...but certain situations you just dont have it cause your trying to hard or scared to mess up... I think thats all it is...at some point something will snap...and he is going say I can do this...no he wont drop 20 a night but he will do much better.
What the ****? I don't think you know how the NBA business work. Owners actually do pay for the player's salary not the fans. You will say that the fans do indirectly pay the player's salary because of the tickets, TV deals, etc. But I will say you that: don't you think they can do the same thing in another city? Do you really think owners care about the city? They will go to any city IF the INVESTMENT and RISK is worth it. Don't compare NBA performance with electricity bills please it's not the same thing and you know it. All they owe you is a place in the stadium if you paid for the ticket or the right to see their games on TV if you paid the right cable company. They dont OWE you an NBA championship for ****'s sake.
