That's unfortunate about the underproduction. I'll buy this next winter. I still have a back log of games left to play for the PS2 and GameCube. Given how cheap consoles become after the launch, I don't see the point in sticking with one platform or moving to the next version. Hell, I picked up a Wii for $70 when its popularity fizzled. I got to play Galaxy and Metroid Prime. Buying several consoles is the way to go. Each system has quality, exclusive games; some games are better played with one controller over another; in the end, quite a few only care about a great gaming experience like Mario, Halo, or Metal Gear Solid.
The Verge had a review on it, and they weren't really impressed. http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/18/3658130/nintendo-wii-u-review
Apple has taken the casual gamer market from Nintendo. I am positive that Wii U will be a letdown for Nintendo.
I know what you're saying. I tried adding to cart a few minutes after you posted. Depending on the few things I tried, the console adds to cart but attempting to checkout will say nothing in stock. The reason I bring this up is because there was a lot of fuss going around websites like CAG and Slickdeals where people were sharing their experiences at their local retailers trying to get a Wii U at launch. It contradicts what you're saying of walmart.com, if its inventory count was accurate (it's not). Craigslist is already showing people trying to sell for $500-$700, while some are offering to buy for $450 (deluxe). --- Nintendo's problem is crappy launch titles. Black Ops 2 and AC 3 is already available on other consoles. Mario is obviously their biggest title, with Nintendo Land and Zombies receiving notable reviews. A Smash Bros. or Zelda would make launch 1000% much more exciting. Anyone who enjoys their "real" games should just wait until next fall. They are guaranteed to bring something big out then to compete with PS4 and Xbox 3.
Why does'nt Nintendo release a traditional gaming console anymore? First the Wii now this gimmicky crap.
Disappointed in the ZombiU reviews, looked really fun and cool but sounds like they rushed it out to meet launch. That just about kills me getting this console anytime soon, the only other two launch games that interest me are New Super Mario Bros and Scribblenauts. Will wait until there's a bigger and better library for getting this. Also don't want another situation like the 3DS where they drop the price really soon.
Nintendo doesn't care about home consoles anymore. Their biggest development is on their portable systems. CHILDREN = $$$
I didn't have to try anything to add it. Maybe it was about to go offline at that point, or maybe I would have got a backorder email, who knows, but that is unusual that late in the day on a new gaming system. Most would have been offline shortly afterwards. Trying to sell. On Ebay deluxe models are selling for under $500. When you consider cost of Wii U after sales tax, and ebay fees, you aren't making a huge profit. Like I said, yesterday morning they they still had a couple of them in the store when I went and checked. Compare to most recent systems that have involved line waiting or instantly selling out online.
Because there's no point in their eyes. We already have two systems fighting it out that are basically offering the same thing. Not much use in a third.
I don't get it... seems to just be a new game console in the form of a tablet. I see how it benefits Nintendo (getting people to buy into yet another new form factor so more replacement game sales), but it's not clear why this is good for the consumer, especially since in a year or two a completely new formfactor will be marketed. Wouldn't it make more sense to focus on creating the optimal integration/connection between our existing tablets and the TV?
Only because it's $100 cheaper. That's the only reason at this point. It certainly isn't because of game sales, heh. Total domination here: On the contrary Nintendo / the Wii has been getting killed in sales by Microsoft AND Sony for the past 2 or 3 years. They just had a ridiculous lead and a much lower price point, in addition to an aim at an untapped market. I don't even need to note that the past few years with losses are some of the first years Nintendo has reported losses EVER.
No sales tax in Oregon!! I got two Wii U's, I was considering selling the second one, but I think I'm going to give it to a childhood friend for X-mas.
Asking the Verge what they think of electronics without Apple logos on them is a lot like asking Apple what they think of electronics without Apple logos on them.
They gave my Galaxy Nexus a pretty decent review. If I recall it was one of the only reviews available when I bought it as well. I trust their reviews, and they're not saying anything that other reviewers aren't.
Couldn't Sony just release a firmware that gives the Vita the same functionality of a Wii U? The Vita can do everything that the Wii U controller can do but the screen is better, and it can run by itself. Since they are the same cost, Vita could replace the Wii U if Sony wanted. They don't though most likely cause there is not much demand for the Wii U to be worth the effort.
