a healthy Lowry + Harden would definitely make some noise in the playoffs. We may not make it out of the first round, but we would be highly competitive. Although a small sample size, Lowry prior to his injury this year was putting up 19/6/6 and VASTLY improved his shooting/range. His versatility would open things up for Harden a ton. Even in poor shooting games, Lowry would still make a huge impact some way or another. And he's only 26. He's still young enough himself to be part of a rebuilding process. With Lin, despite Linsanity last year, is still too much of an unknown.
he's only 24, guys. besides from his jumper he has been playing much better than last year. i'm not worried about his fg%, since that's probably the easiest part of his game to fix.
This is on the coaches IMO. You know that if D'Antoni was coach he'd be telling Lin to just keep attacking and his shots will fall eventually. The coaches should be trying to build him up rather than destroying his confidence by making him play off guard and messing with his playing time.
Exactly/ elite teams= win now mode, Rockets= rebuilding stage.... Now just because the Rockets are rebuilding doesn't mean this young ball club wants to win now.. This young ball club is capable of winning now but the elite teams are just better because of experience, so relax people and just let them play!!!
Meh I disagree. I think this is to much of a reach trying to psychoanalyze him. I just think his shots aren't falling lol. He has been a lot more aggressive the the last two games if this keeps up I think everything wil just start to click. Law of averages will click in & eventually shots will fall. Remember when Harden first started out & in those two games his shots were falling like a mad man & then afterward law of averages kicked in and they stopped falling. The same will happen to Lin. he is getting good looks just not getting that friendly bounce. Just a thought feel free to disagree.
But why does he need a coach to tell him to attack the baske more if your shot is not falling? It's pretty basic ball knowledge that if your shot isn't falling, you attack the rim for an easier shot. And I don't see why playing a little off guard is hurting his game. I mean, he was a pretty good scorer in college. I thought the knack of him was that he was more of a scoring guard than point guard? Lin is a big boy, your theory is almost insulting to Lin as a ball player. And Lin has been attacking the rim, but he isn't finishing a great rate or he passes it back out.
He was never even a decent shooter. You take away his first 5 games as a Knick where was has magical (arguably the best 5 game stretch for a newbie), he shot 40-41% last year overall. In Golden state, he shot 39% (small sample size plus low shot attempts). And this year he's shooting 34%. Obviously, he's going to shoot better as the season progresses. But I don't expect anything better than 40% or around there. He's not a very good shooter judging from his NBA career.
The funniest part of this season thus far is that if only Lin had made that winning last second 3 point shot instead of airballing it, none of us would be making such a big deal out of his lack of scoring recently. Or at least not as big of an issue. However, he DOES need to at least hit a few of those wide open Js....once in a blue moon at least...Rockets either need to bring in his old shooting coach or get him a whole new one which will probably make things worse for a while even. EIther way we all will just have to sit and watch how and if he evolves.
He has a good work ethic, and he shoots a good percentage from the free-throw line. With reps and practice, I think he can develop into a good shooter. It happened for Kyle Lowry.
I still think his shooting form looked funny yesterday, and a lot of his shots were missing badly. That air-ball the other night also suggests nerves -- thinking too much in a high-pressure situation. It would be natural for a young, relatively inexperienced player with all eyes focused on him to experience this.
I play basketball and I'm a pretty good shooter....can hit 9-10 three's in a row just practicing when I'm feeling it. With that said I like to watch a player's shooting form and study it to see why they are good or bad shooters. Guys like Steve Novak and Ray Allen not only have great form but they also have a very soft touch, Novak especially. I'm also suprised at how soft Omer's touch is when he's shooting free throws. He follows through well and the ball lands soft on the rim. That being said when I see Jeremy shoot I get really confused. First off he likes to jump and then shoot the ball, which you don't see from PG's often. To jump and then shoot you need a lot of upper body strength because you are taking your legs out of the shot. Strong PG's can get away with this like Russel Westbrook, but even then his shot is inconsistent. Secondly his shooting form is very strange. Technically his elbow sticks out way too much, and his grip is also strange. It's like he loses control of the ball when he releases. The arc of the ball is extremely high...and in his case it's too high. As a result you get a jumpshot with very inconsistent results, and by inconsistent I mean his misses are all over the place. They're either short by a foot or to the left/right by a foot. Of course he could go 10-10 the next game and noone would care about his shooting form, but I'm trying to explain what I think is the problem.
It's like two completely different people, this season vs last season. One was always looking to attack and had balls. The other always looks passive and hesitant. I can only think that the pressure of the contract and living up to Linsanity has got to him.
I will try to keep an eye out for it tonight & try to get back to you maybe I am missing something. He is definitely confident when he is attacking though. You can't talk about a small sample & then minimize the sample even more to prove a point. That is contradictory.
I don't blame Lin at all. If anyone here says they wouldn't take that money of a team was dumb enough to give to to them, they are lying. I blame the Rockets front office for giving him the money in the first place. They bid against themselves and lost. Lin on the Knicks this year means they are probably %.500 or Kid is starting at point and he's coming off the bench. Probably means we still have Dragic, who's shooting %49 right now.
It's nice to dream about a Harden/Lowry combo, but the Raptors pick we got for Lowry was needed to get Harden here in the first place
+1...Most great 3-pt shooters have a set shot. Unless you're Kobe or Lebron, to hit a 3-pt jumper with consistency is tough. Nonetheless, I think his midrange jumper is fine...I think the problem is in his head. I had a Coach that used to yell at us and say, "I don't care if you miss, if you have a good shot - shoot it. BUT SHOOT WITH CONFIDENCE!" He's young, he's developing...and I believe he's coming.
Anybody else get the feeling from the tone of the message board that Lowry and Goran never truly felt the love and therefore had an easy time leaving us? :>
