Andre just seems so exciting because there are many less games in the NFL than in the NBA. Even with that fake injury that demanded a trade, HAKEEM is still unbeatable. Andre would need more than just a Super Bowl to surpass Dream. The main difference is that Dream could do things on his own without somebody passing him the ball and Andre cannot. Johnson needs M. Schaub or even D. Carr to pass him the ball in order for him to be noticed. Dream didn't need anyone. Dream did it by himself a bunch of times. MVPs, Quadruple Doubles, leader in blocks FOREVER and no one is even close.
I always defend Andre Johnson but he is not going to be 1b, he can be no. 2, but no. 1 would always be Hakeem.
I love Andre Johnson. Great player. Great Texan. Now a bit of a history lesson for those too young to know better. The former professional football team in Houston(which shall remain nameless) was, for a period of about 5 years among the best in the NFL. THEN: In 1992 came the Elway playoff loss. In 1993, came the Frank Reich playoff disaster. In 1994, came the Joe Montana coup de grace to football in Houston. The name "Choke City" was invented because of the above. Hakeem Olajuwon, Rudy T. and a bunch of Rockets legends actually turned "Choke City" into what we all now know as "Clutch City". You can't imagine how crazy it was to be a Rockets fan in those days. Bars and restaurants had to put TV's in the parking lots during playoff games to accomodate the fans. I was a Rockets fan for a couple years prior to Clutch City, but the 94-95 runs CEMENTED my fanhood. Red Nation till I die. And NONE of the above would have happened without: Hakeem the Dream Olajuwon. Please don't compare him to any other Houston sports figure. Its just wrong.
hakeem went to UH. lead the cougars to ncaa finals (didn't win though) houston legend since he was a young man
Player A (12 seasons): 5× Pro Bowl selection 4× All-Pro selection 2× NFL Receiving Yards Leader Player B (7 seasons): AP NFL MVP 3× NFL Offensive Player of the Year NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year 5× Pro Bowl selection 3× All-Pro selection 3× NFL Rushing champion 2× PFWA NFL MVP 3× NEA NFL MVP Tell me which had the better career?
Fair or not, there's just not too much favoritism to the wide receiver position compared to QBs and running backs. NO wide receiver has EVER won the NFL MVP (the official AP award) Jerry Rice is a better player than Steve Young, but Steve Young is gonna "own the town" and the votes. So it works against Andre like that, just how it goes.
Sorry bro, that's totally false..."Choke City" was created when the Rockets had huge leads in game 1 and 2 in the 94 playoffs against the Suns and lost both games. It has absolutely nothing to do with football.
The term "choke city" was born from a combination of Houston sports failures (including the Astros and Oilers) over the years. While it may have been coined specifically after the losses to the Suns, those losses were merely the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Now "clutch city" can be credited 100% to the Rockets.
Lin? lol thats a joke, I was following you until you blindsided me with that one.. I really hope youre pranking us.. if any Asian player it will be Yao Ming, smh
I will never take anything coming from you seriously ever again after that statement.. smh you have no idea of the gravity and magnitude of the greatness that was Hakeem Olajuwon.. Ill stop right there because Im not going to defend Hakeems' all time greatness to idiotic views like this, smh they should age limit these types of threads
I guess you didnt see this game then.. That is untrue, good WR's cant, transcendant WR's in fact CAN carry an offense, and AJ is indeed one of them
I was not fortunate enough to watch Hakeem in action being that I was too young, but even I know that Hakeem will always number 1 in Houston. Andre is great but don't you put him right next to Hakeem
apples to oranges. hakeem is 1 of the only people to have no allstars on his team and carry them to a championship. hakeem was the center of phi slama jama. nobody touches hakeem. there's a reason howard, lebron, kobe, etc hired dream to teach them personally. dream was at a level that a few in their sport could even come close. andre is the man today but he's got some help.
