Lesson #1. Never hire a mentally ill person.

Can someone just ask him this point blank (but respectfully) on twitter and see if he gives a real response?

As I looked more into his tweets, I came to the conclusion that this guy has got to go. I cannot imagine how annoying Royce White must be in person. He's like a religious wacko who relates EVERYTHING that goes on to his religion. The Rockets need to get rid of him just for the sake of the other players' sanity.

The sad thing is that Royce White is doing the very opposite of what he wants to do with the stigma of mental illness.

We're all aware to one extent or another of Royce White's road to the NBA, but for those who aren't, I decided to put together a comprehensive timeline of his consistent-inconsistent basketball career thus far.

    ----------------------------

    Royce White Timeline:

2007-2008 (Jr. Year of High School):

-Suspended first two games (DeLaSalle High)
-Ultimately "dismissed" from DeLaSalle late into 2007-2008 season

2008 - 2009 (Sr. Year of High Scool):

-Transferred to Hopkins, finished senior year w/o incident
    -Commits to U of Minnesota

    2009 - 2010 (Freshman Year of College):

-Suspended from 09-10 Men's NCAA Division 1 Basketball competition after being arrested for theft and 5th Degree assault for incident that occurred at the Mall of America
-Eventually plead guilty to theft and disorderly conduct for said incident at Mall of America
-Suspect in laptop theft at U of Minnesota
-Eventually charged with trespassing regarding laptop theft incident
-Unofficially announced his resignation from U of Minnesota via YouTube before ever playing a game with the U of Minnesota Gophers

    2010 - 2011 (Soph. Year of College):

-Verbally agreed to transfer to Kentucky
-Scheduled trip to Kentucky to sign with team, eventually cancelled trip due to anxiety reasons, ultimately deciding not to sign with Kentucky
-Committed to Iowa State, but deemed ineligible to receive scholarship by NCAA for the 2010-11 season, due the timing of abrupt departure from U of Minnesota

    2011 - 2012 (Soph. Year of College round 2):

-Scholarship reinstated, played full season for Iowa State
-Decides to forgo JR and SR year at ISU, declare for NBA draft

    2012 - Current:

-Drafted 16 overall by Houston Rockets
-Missed opening of training camp over contractual issues regarding his OCD and GAD
-Granted permission by the Rockets to take bus, to away games, when applicable
-A few games into the 2012-2013 NBA goes MIA after disagreement with team, misses all games and practices
-Officially sent to the D-League on Nov. 14th
    -Failed to report to D-League

And the rest has been well documented here.

You should not draft one though... Let others draft and have success and then trade for the veteran established player instead who has overcome those issues

If anyone has a link to Royce's YouTube resignation video, please post or pm it to me. I'm thinking about putting together a little Royce White tribute video, and I think it might come in handy.

I've searched and searched but it appears as though all remnants have been removed from the Internet.

...unless you understand what you are hiring.

But Royce White's behavior will tarnish all mentally ill people in a very negative way.

Planet Earth...Have a safe trip to Mars...

Seriously though, when you are talking about the NBA and investing millions of dollars into a player, the risk is probably not going to be worth the reward.

I disagree I think it is the opposite in some cases. There are a lot of people who suffer from anxiety disorder who love that Royce is being very vocal about the illness. I get that some people find it uncomfortable or just don't understand. But for those who have suffered from mental illness and have felt that there is nobody to speak out on there behalf, well they are in awe of Royce that he would be so brave.

I get that a lot of people are like, Royce has accomplished nothing in the NBA so who is he to talk. But I disagree with that notion. I think it takes a special kind of person with a special kind of confidence to speak out even though they are a rookie & have yet to really become a household name in the NBA.

I was at a seminar on mental health not to long ago & I brought up Royce in the group discussion and somebody actually raised a really valid point. Nobody knows what could have triggered Royce's anxiety could have been molestation for example. Royce not wanting to see the team doctor but preferring the doctor he has had since he was 17 makes sense. After all who would want to retell the story of his trigger/trauma if it was sexual assault.

I have a lot of respect for Royce despite everything & hope that the Rockets don't give up on him. I think he has the potential to be a very good player in this league. Do I think he could have handled everything better yes, but I am not going to crucify someone who is so young for handling something poorly. I was young once too & I would be lying to say if I didn't make some youthful mistakes myself in my past.

He's the most talkative person I've ever met with anxiety issues. Not saying his issues aren't real, but they may be overstated.

...I'm thinking more and more that this is a lost cause...

Naturally talented kids with enough talent can dip in and out of basketball in high school and to some degree college without losing too much ground...

but this is FAAAAAR from high school and college ball. Let's say we (he) gets the ball rolling in the right direction to start playing, we can't afford him to go back into another playing hiatus like his timeline history proves.

I think you would be surprised how many players there are in the NBA who suffer from some form of mental health illness & absolutely nobody in the public knows about it. The NBA takes risks all the time & invests millions of dollars into taking care of the possy of some players in addition to the player themselves. Just a thought.

Anyway, I am heading off to Mars
