Thanks. its really the only point that's crystal clear in that expression. White, or his disorder, wants no part of D-League. (not related to the quoted post.) to the folks saying 'we don't understand' ... just give it a rest already, you guys don't understand either! and the other possible shadowy point from that expression is Royce White is equally clueless. Rockets took a long shot. at this point no alternative to follow and see if any dim chance of success remains.
White needs to understand that he suffers from narcissistic personality disorder as well as anxiety. If there is any value left in him, the Rockets should cash out as soon possible.
Royce White is optimistic about rejoining Rockets Nov 18, 2012 3:46 a.m. http://wap.myfoxhouston.com/w/sports/story/78529791/
I know this is off topic, but has nobody in the NBA ever heard of condoms or, for crying out loud, just pulling out even? It seems like every kid in the NBA is already a father.
I think doing anything except working with him is wrong. We knew he had issues and took him in, and expressed we would work with him. Although we did not know the degree of the issues. It would be better for him to quit on his own accord than have us force him to.
I just wanted to weigh in as someone who has struggled with GAD and OCD in my life. I actually lost a job because of it. The good news is that Royce realizes that he has a problem and is still very young. I didn't figure things out until my late 20s. There's still plenty of time for him to get this under control and have a productive NBA career. I'm not sure that his current method of dealing with it is the best way to go about it. This isn't completely a medical issue and I'm convinced that everything that we're hearing from Royce isn't coming from his previous doctor. If it was strictly medical issue, he could take something for it and be well enough to show up to work. But when he says things like going to practice is on the back burner, that's very concerning to me. I think I understand how he's thinking, but this isn't something that you can put on the back burner. This is like cancer of the mind, and giving in to your fear is only going to make it worse. Then one day you'll have hit the snooze button an odd number of times and you won't remember why you started doing that in the first place. The Rockets have been accommodating. But they aren't accommodating Royce, they are only accommodating his illness. If going on twitter rants helps him deal with it, that's fine. But he could be more diplomatic to his employers. At some point, he's going to have to face these things by himself. There are actions he can take like not isolating himself and a regular exercise and sleep schedule. Hopefully these can be accomplished with life in the NBA.
I agree,it's better if he quits on his own.Might be easier to void his contract. I don't agree with the "working with him" part..I feel he misrepresented himself before the draft and the Rockets have already gone above and beyond ...When is it enough ? Maybe never with this guy.Royce is the one that needs to conform, not the other way around. Combine interview where he gives every indication that flying isn't an issue. He was also tweeting pictures of himself boarding a plane. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/b9TaK9fCI2U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The only thing Royce said throughout that story is : "I have don't have a problem with anything, unless my mental illness gets in the way, which is always a possibility."
He says his commitment is to his kids, but he opts out of college to join the NBA and refuses to honor his contract. He says D-League is okay, but he's not going. Everything he says is in direct conflict to his actions. He thinks he's a messiah figure for mental disorders and he's a pioneer and wants to change everything. I think that is, dare I say it, insane. No pity. None. Cut his ass and let him twist in the wind.
This is ridiculous, who does White think he is? I understand he has a pretty bad mental illness but he is talking like he is the most important person in the world. Have some humility dude.
Assuming that not going to practice is related to his anxiety issues, I believe that he thinks that he can put it aside and come back from a stronger place. This is flawed logic on his part. He is outside of his safe zone. He doesn't want to deal with it. But it's only going to get worse. And if he never picks up a basketball again, it will be something else. It's always something. Now if he's not showing up because he's pouting, that would be a better sign. Not popular around here, but much better for the Rockets.
If they could possibly trade him, they will. Otherwise, he will not be resigned after this current contract and most likely by anybody! What employer wants a mentally sensitive individual who threatens to sue, nobody!
Correct, on his guaranteed contract, no NBA team would trade for him, even if the Rockets sent over cash to cover his contract. The Rockets would be better off waiving him then exploring trades.
