I don't think I've seen a thread on it yet. Anyone pre-order or plan on standing in line early in the morning to nab one? Is this the Dreamcast part deux ?
"I ordered one of each. Pre-orders opened @ Best Buy and TRU too." http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=226156
Newegg has a basic (white) bundle that's still on sale. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16868100130
As long as Nintendo lags behind in the actual games category, they will never top Microsoft or Sony. Super Mario is great, but Nintendo rehashes variations of the Mario gaming franchise each and every year, multiple times. The variety in their game choices is laughable compared to the Xbox and the Playstation. However, I suppose this was a smart move for them to release the Wii U a year or so before the new Xbox or Playstation consoles come out.
I hope you realize Nintendo destroys Sony and Microsoft in all sales categories for game systems. http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/
After the disastrous clusterfeck known as the Wii, I will not be spending on the next one. Even if I were, I would wait a few months because I've had bad experiences getting first gen console systems.
Wii was a huge seller, it just started to collect dust insanely early into it's life. Galaxy should have been a release title.
It will be interetng to see how this console does. This could be a real make or break scenario. I just wonder about the consoles life. The wii dropped off very fast. I wonder how well this one will hold up in terms of graphics as well as game titles and online abilities
Pretty sure if you try to checkout, it will say it's out of stock. It seems that inventory may be an issue again, especially with Europe and Japan release coming up soon. Not sure this is something I'd play though -- at least not until Zelda or Smash Bros. come out.
This may be the first Nintendo console that I end up not buying. None of the launch games interest me, and the only upcoming announced game that interests me is Bayonetta 2. That's not good enough to sell me the system. I'm getting tired of 2D Mario games and I'm also getting weary of Zelda. Nintendo is milking their "big 3" way too much. I'm not seeing a lot of hype for the Wii U in general. I dropped by Fry's this morning out of curiosity and while the system itself was out of stock...there were tons of copies of everything else (games incl. "big" ones like NSMB Wii U, accessories, etc.). That was not the case with the original Wii launch. Hell, even compared to the launch of the PS3, X360, GameCube, original Xbox, etc...the interest and enthusiasm for the Wii U seems underwhelming. As for the system itself...the entire Wii U project feels rushed and half-baked. The GamePad, the online network, the games...all of it. It's as if Nintendo was in a big hurry to get their new console out first, without really thinking things through. I have a feeling that the Wii U will ultimately be a disappointment for Nintendo. It may be a bit hard to find one between now and Christmas (especially if Nintendo purposely undershipped), but I suspect it'll be readily available come Jan/Feb. To be fair though, I'm not enthusiastic about the next Sony or Microsoft consoles either. That may change once they are officially unveiled, but I suspect that I and many others will be underwhelmed by them. More and more I'm becoming a PC gamer.
Yes I'm aware of that. Not what I meant. I should have prefaced my statement. But Nintendo isn't as well received as the Xbox or Playstation because their game market is lagging behind severely.
Nintendo isn't trying to go head to head with sony and microsoft, they target the people that the other 2 don't, casual gamers. If they were so desperate to compete, the wii would have had better graphics at launch, and the 360 wouldn't have tried to imitate the wii's avatar concept and kinect and playstation motion wouldn't have been created. They outsell the competition because they're playing a different game. I agree with DonkeyMagic, this is a big moment for Nintendo. People outgrew the Wii, so it will be interesting to see if they can get the same results with this product. I don't think they will.
