Can you explain the reason you think that? To me Morris is more of a SF than PF, Patterson just looks stronger. Also I think Patterson's knee injury have really affected him, remember how easily he dunked his rookie season? He just can't get up like that anymore. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vwpN6Dw4Zgc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
As Patterson's minutes have gone up and become more consistent, his rebounding has plummeted. A natural rebounder just knows how to grab them and is fairly consistent with it. And we're not talking about a skinny young kid who's not physically mature. This is a full-bodied man who's simply soft on the glass. He doesn't have that "go get it" mentality.
Our rebounding as a team is excellent. We have an elite rebounding Center and above average at the 1-3. Patterson's rebounding is not a huge concern even if it is below average because rebounding isn't really hurting us.
We always lose that one clutch rebound at the end. Boxing out is a major issue, when we go small/stupid.
We played just 8 games and haven't faced teams like the Spurs, Lakers or Thunder.Check the Nuggets game when Farried grabbed 16 boards against us. By the way 9 of the 16 were offensive boards.Asik wont grab 15 every game. I watched every game so far and i'm very concerned about the lack of aggressiveness of our PF on the boards.
Spurs and Thunder are average or below average rebounding teams. Denver is #1. You are acting like Faried is some scrub, he is a rebounding machine. With great rebounding at multiple positions, canibilism of numbers is expected.
We need a PF with rebounds and is solid defensively. Also needs have a good mid range and post moves. The irony of the rockets needing to amnesty Scola for cap space, but he is the power forward we need right now lol.
Like RV6 said, it's hard to put an exact number on it but it would definitely be nice if Pat would grab a damn rebound every now an then. Pat is spectacularly average at man to man and pick and role defense, he works hard knows where to be but his results are usually just average. Pat is pittifully below average as a defensive rebounder and shot blocker, which of course is part of defense and when figured in to the whole equation, makes Pat an overall below average defender. Maybe Pat will improve as the season goes on maybe he will not. But I know it's frustrating as a fan to know that there is a better option on the bench than Pat. When Asik fouled out last night in the Portland game we all knew what was coming and we all knew what the results would be. Portland was going to dump the ball into post and let LMA abuse 2Pat. We all knew that Pat would be in the proper position but when it was all over LMA would just shoot the ball over the top of Pat for the game winning basket, which of course is what happened. Pat has a very nice mid range offensive game and when so inclined can also score in the post. His range out to the 3pt line is forced and he is just not very good at that distance. I think Terrence Jones is going to be a much more dynamic defensive player than Pat could ever hope to be. Terrence is already the superior rebounder and shot blocker. I for one would have been much more comfortable with TJ on LMA last night than 2Pat. TJ is a better ball handler than 2Pat and he has legit range out to the 3pt line. I dont think TJ has the mid range game that 2Pat has but I am a lot more comfortable with TJ and his 255 lbs finishing plays in the paint and on the break than 2Pat. Sorry about the rant.
Patrick Patterson averages about 6 rebounds per 36 minutes as a PF Marcus Morris averages about 8 rebounds per 36 minutes with most of his time at SF. Why would you ever think that Pat is as good of a rebounder than Mook when the evidence supports just the opposite.
Rockets use a different evaluation metric for rebounding (Morey mentioned that when he praised Battier for boxing out and letting the big men get rebounds). His rebounding rate is probably much better if the metric is "number of times our team gets the rebound when the ball bounces his way." To judge his rebounding, I think we need to look at some advanced stats, ex: "number of times he establishes good rebounding position," "number of times he moves to a better rebounding position," etc. Also, if our defensive philosophy is to "pack the paint" and forces the opponents to shoot from long range, our guards actually have a better chance of grabbing those long rebounds. As long as our rebounding as a team is good, I am not worried about his rebounding number.
Its not so much just about Pat. We need a rebounding presence when Asik isnt in the game. The lack of rebounding at those times hurts us too much.
Cause Faried is a machine you are Ok with him grabbing 9 Offensive boards??? Have you watched the game??? Except Asik and Parsons our bigs were realy soft on the boards. For getting into the Playoffs we need aggressive PF.
I think it is a concern because he puts pressure on the others to pick up the slack. Guys notice things like that and know they have to help out. It shouldn't be like that with a player as big and athletic as Pat is. He doesn't block shots, rebound, draw fouls, shoot threes well, so then why have him out there? Get someone out there who can do more things and allow the back court to concentrate on their specialties. Morris is averaging like 5 boards in 20 mins. A step up would be rebounding like an elite pf/c. He's doing his part already. IIRC, it was his ankle. He said he was 100% for this season.
No I am not all that worried about rebounding, since as a team we are excellent at rebounding. I am much more concerned about getting a second core piece to build around with harden. Trying to fill holes (or minor deficiencies in this case) on a team that is not a contender is an excercise in futility. Making the playoffs is not my goal.
Without looking at stats, it's quite obvious to me that Pat Pat has not put much effort into rebounding the ball. And effort is what I look for in this young team.
