Those fans just have to realize not everything revolves around Lin. Their complaints are always full of bias and they feel the need to spam the forums with the same thing over and over about how Sampson is a racist, his knee is not 100 percent, his teammates suck, etc. It just ends up dividing the fan base and annoying everyone else who isn't obsess with Lin.
I never said I wanted Lin to do bad. I want him to do very well. I just don't care about his fans. If Jeremy Lin fan wearing a Knicks jersey forgets his hot dogs at the concession stand, I'm giving it to the little kid wearing the Rockets Yao throwback jersey.
If Lin fans think that the arrival of their almighty to this franchise just put the rockets on the map, well they are grossly mistaken. Houston is the 4th largest city in the U.S. and based upon it's economy & population, rivals just global cities as Athens, Berlin, Prague, Rome, Stockholm, & Tel Aviv. Sorry Lin fans if you thought Houston was some small little town in Texas. I think the Rockets will do alright, with or without him.
We can still dump him after 3 years. I don't believe we can become anything close to a contender in 3 years though. Basically, we wisely spend some money on Lin to earn more money, while we still have the salary cap to do something if there is a good reason (Harden?).
Lin fans need to re-read this over and over again. 95% of Rockets fans who watched the game last night recognize Sampson's decision was a poor one. Creating threads like this one does not generate insightful discussion nor does it help you gain acceptance on this board and overall leaves a bad impression upon LOF.
The Yao fans created a site cause they were tired of hearing things that wasn't uncritical of Yao, they wanted a place where they can praise Yao and blame others if he had bad games. A place where Larry Smith is forever hated.
You mean the game where we were +21 with TD on the floor until the final garbage minutes, and someone was questioning why he got extended minutes? And the post-game where Sampson also pointed out that Lin is the better half-court player?
Well, tough luck, because many of his fans are now Rockets fans, too - and you can't tell them they are not or they cannot be. Be part of the solution, not of the problem.
Being an nba point guard does not mean getting yours first. You have to pay attention to his assists and his ability to spread the floor, setting up other players. The one thing that seems to be hindering him is his shot percentage. It is awful tight now, which I think he can play through it. As for benching during overtime I cant argue with that.
But was it really "THAT BAD"???.... was the Rockets scoring really something that kept them from winning the game? Or maybe was it that... just maybe, the Blazers 3 best players were having CAREER NIGHTS.... ALL AT THE SAME TIME and Sampson was trying something.... anything to slow them down. Its not hard to believe that Douglas is a more pesky defender than Lin even though Lin is very good at creating steals in the passing lane. My guess is that Sampson thought Douglas would get up into Lillard enough to make him feel uncomfortable, and possibly force him into a bad shot. In case you missed it.... Lillard, Batum, and Aldridge went into video game god mode last night. Give Sampson a little bit of credit for at least having the guts to try something different on the defensive end. But no, it didn't involve Lin, so now the LOF'ers dont care. Its obvious that they really just want him to score enough points to justify the All-Star game slot that they are going to vote him into... screw the Rockets Win/Loss record.
You just have a broader definition of Rockets fan than others . If they cheer if Lin makes a jumper and don't cheer if Tony Douglas does. then what are they?
I agree with you Tinman. Its makes the ticket, and the merchandise sales feel cheapened. Its a screw the team, pat Lin's stats attitude thats making me sick. I want fans of all walks of life to love the Rockets, but I want them to love the Rockets for the right reasons.
Can someone just go start a Jeremy Lin forum? Then you LOFs can all hang out there, instead of clutter up the GARM.
We should make it a rule that if after 20 votes, a thread has a 1-star rating, it should be automatically closed. This is a terrible thread.
Then they still need to learn that basketball is a team sport and that one single player cannot be successful without his team. It might take some time, but many of them will learn it. Again, I am sure that we still have Rockets fans who came here only because of Yao Ming, but now they are Rockets fans. Is it annoying when certain fans only seem to care about one certain player and not about the team? Yes. Does you constantly harping on the issue make things better? No. It just antagonizes them more and people will become more entrenched in their position. Let's just look past the few ridiculous fans and let's focus on supporting the Rockets as a team.
