I am ashamed to admit this, but this recent conflict has made me realize how run down these Israeli neighborhoods appear. I always pictured Israel as this suburban paradise, but then I see these videos of Tel Aviv and I realize that it looks more like Tehran than Manhattan.

But the propaganda in the Muslim world is that Israel is super-rich and starving the Palestinians to death.

Deji, I wish you would post in the D&D more. Not only do you have information and insight about Israel and the Middle East that many of us don't, your posts about other topics are very good as well.

How likely is a one-state solution (with universal suffrage, and not eradication)? The Palestinans, Israelis, and Arab leaderships all seem content with the status quo. Furthermore, given what you've experienced in Israel, could such a state even exist without constant tension and violence?

Stay safe, man. And thanks for helping me with that paper, last year (I don't think I ever formally thanked you).

Of course some of it is exagerrated. But you can't deny that there is large gap between lifestyles in both nations- most notably in the West Bank. That's not to say there aren't poor areas in Israel or wealthy Palestinans, but the Israeli economy and infrastructure (most importantly, access to water) is far superior than that of their Palestinan counterparts.

Maybe if Hamas spent less money on bombs and rockets and more money on building up their economy, this might begin to change.

It certainly would be a big help, yes.

I think that might just be the housing style in that region. Some nice ( middle class )parts of Riyadh and Dubai look very similar.

Sure the same could be said about Israel. If they spent more money on humanitarian aid for the Palestinian refugees instead of caging them like animals and bombing them , this might bring a change to the area.

As long as they have good reason to assume that any funding they would give them would be funneled into rockets aimed at them, you will not see much of this happen.

There is no doubt in my mind that Hamas is an extremist, racist organization that seems perfectly willing to resort to terrorism for the sake of "resistance" or anti-semitic, "Westboro Church"-style rhetoric to incite anger.

Just trying to be clear on what both sides are really trying to achieve. The official Hamas charter contains abhorrent, anti-semitic messages, but it does not call for the annihilation of Jews. Often, people seem to take doing away with Israel as equivalent to destroying the Jews and its not. I believe that Hamas, for self-preservation and political purposes, would be willing to accept a two-state solution but they'll always take a hard-line stance on it.

Hamas definitely does call for the annihilation of all Jews. Furthermore there would be no-way Hamas would accept a two-state solution, because this would
be recognizing the state of Israel.

This video explains the conflict pretty well.

Have they done so in any official way? Have they declared that they will not stop or be satisfied until all Jews are eradicated?

You can believe a state is illegitimate, and at the same time accept that they exist and not actively pursue its destruction.

To get the World on their side. I don't know why people think Israel intentionally target civilians...Why would Israel do that...?? --To give an already biased media more ammunition to use against Israel. To give the UN reasons to condemn them...Somebody answer me...

Deji, I got a question...You say Bibi just wants to get re-elected so he starts a war. Doesn't it make it harder to get re-elected if soldiers die in a ground invasion on the Gaza strip? Why would having his soldiers die making it easier to get re-elected?

The video of Ahmad Bahr saying this is a few pages back. Also Hamas thinks seeing a state as illegitimate as a reason for destruction. These guys also disclaim the holocaust.

I don't think Israel is intentionally targetting civilians

I also think Israel doesn't give two shets whether random Palestinians civilians are killed in their operations.

You do not have a firm grip on reality do you?? I believe you are blinded by your hate for Israel. Just remember that Hamas started this crap. Israel did not just start bombing them for nothing. Don't let reality get in the way of your blind hatred.
