Interesting weekend here in Austin. People started showing up on Wednesday and I'm afraid of how it's going to get with traffic. I work downtown and I hope that its crazy tonight. So far we've had mostly British people out at our club so lots of requests for Beatles, Queen, and Oasis. The funny thing is that I know absolutely nothing about F1 racing. Apparently the track and facilities are getting good reviews. I'm happy for Austin to have an international showcase and hopefully things go well.
Track built specifically for this, although they do other races on it. It's going to be big. Too bad it wasn't last week when the Texans played at night.
I am staying in Round Rock and going no where south of TX 45. I did drive by the track on my way south a couple of weeks ago. Looks really cool...well, as cool as it could look going by at 90 mph.
Oh crap, you work at Pete's, right? It's gonna be crazy tonight and tomorrow...hope you make a killing
Yeah, this is a pretty huge race and it's going to be PACKED! Tickets were crazy expensive and I wanted to go so bad. NOTHING like hearing an F1 roaring past you at 200+ MPH.
Good God, the traffic is HORRIBLE. I mean, Austin is pretty bad on the best of days, but this is ridiculous. Folks, unless you have a really, really compelling reason to visit, stay away from Austin this weekend.
I'm going bright and early tomorrow morning with my friends and 2.5 year old. It should be fun. I work downtown, too and walked around the festival as they were setting up today... multiple F1 cars already out and on display... pretty neat.
Yes I work at Pete's. So far, it's been pretty mild, but starting to pick up. We have a BBC film crew in right now and a German film crew is coming in later.
1. NASCAR fans - 'Merica F1 Fan - European royalty and Saudi princes 2. They are providing a helicopter shuttle service from the hotels downtown to the track for $645 roundtrip 3. Track makes left and right turns 4. F1 season spans the globe. They were in Dubai last week, Austin this week, and next week's final race is in Brazil. F1 > NASCAR. Happy for real racing to be back in the US!
I was on a plane on Monday coming from Dallas and he stated something about a $150,000 car and I think he's driving one of them maybe? He seemed rich as hell based on the amount of bags and things he was talking about. I'll have to look more into this once it passes.
Here's a video a buddy of mine took today. <object width="800" height="480"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></param><param name="movie" value="https://www.facebook.com/v/10151317851628142"></param><embed src="https://www.facebook.com/v/10151317851628142" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="1" width="800" height="480"></embed></object>
Unrelated, but if you live in Austin, get the **** out of the left lane going 60mph. Oh, and no I don't drive a Scion XA. lol
Spent the entire day at the track yesterday. I have to say...absolutely amazing. I've never seen cars that fast nor heard anything that loud. Even the practice runs were exhilarating. The "vintage" running was pretty damn cool also. Odd seeing Senna's and Mario's famous old cars out for some fast laps in 2012. I'm taking the day off today, but will be back at the track tomorrow morning...beer-in-hand.
