I don't know you. I just know that we have at least a few things in common. You like Breaking Bad and the Houston Rockets, and that you're another poster on an internet forum. But because of this post, I already get the impression you are a more worthwhile human being than Royce White.

See, Royce White has this effect on people, but in the other direction.

Can you imagine if any of the above threw a temper tantrum of this like in their respective field? Except extrapolate that to their standard as leader of a country. What a train wreck that would be.

Good thing those listed above with a mental disorder had the maturity and fortitude to get through it/live with it and become great people.

White seems to not have those characteristics though.

It's a good and somewhat revealing article. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--r...order-could-cost-him-nba-career-16011709.html

Wojnarowski must have dozens of little birds that whisper things to him...

People need to listen to this. I certainly learned something. Key take-away is patience. There's no guarantees long-term with Royce, but I'd like to see the organization continue to do their best to work through this. Something special, inspiring and monumental could come from this in the long-run.

I am hoping this will wake some people up to the fact that his tweeter rampage accounts for 99% of the criticism he is receiving. Stop tweeting and everything gets better.

A doctor saying that his "voices made him do it" might get Royce out from under the content of his tweets, but into a deeper and potentially more serious debate as to his sanity and/or much more severe mental disability than first thought.

He's absolutely right about the "delusions/narcissism/paranoia" part... at least I'd be willing to bet on it

Per @WojYahooNBA, Royce White has "started to fulfill some of his obligations to the Rockets" in the past 24 hours. http://yhoo.it/S39Zjq

when this started happening, I was angry at Royce for all his antics...

but right now I'm starting to pity him..

because he is destroying his future, he is hurting his own opportunities..

he's self-destructive right now.. he better shape up now and get over himself or else his NBA dream will be over before it even started...

I understand your point, but Royce is just a kid. He's trying to be a pro basketball player, not running for president. None of those guys had a 24 hr news cycle or social media at their fingertips. They enjoyed a measure of privacy that doesn't exist anymore. That said, Royce is benefiting (to some degree) from progress towards understanding mental illness as a society.

Those men were extraordinary to overcome their mental health problems and achieve so much. But I also don't think it's as easy as an apples to apples comparison to Royce. Also, Royce just might not be as extraordinary as they were. I'm trying to keep an open mind. I think patience on behalf of the org is the best way to proceed. So far I'm proud of the way the rockets have handled this situation.

Lincoln and FDR both pushed the red button. Lincoln entered into a Civil War and FDR got us into WWII. And JFK played a dangerous game of brinksmanship during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I don't compare any of the people I listed to Royce White. White could turn out to be great as a player but nobody has ever or will ever consider him a leader of men and women.

I was responding to the post I quoted in which it was said that the lesson was not to hire the mentally ill and that the country would be ****ed if 1/4 of the population had some form of mental illness by pointing out that the mentally ill have been responsible for a lot of the positive change our country has experienced in its short history.

I'd further point out that those great men accomplished what they did not by "overcoming" their illness but by employing those great qualities they learned as a result of it, most especially crisis management and empathy.

There were reasons why all ^those events occurred and it wasn't because of a whim due to an episode....

The "buttons" were pushed for legit reasons.

It seems you haven't been reading them very closely.

    This part is true.

It's new to you, but unless you have access to his doctor, then we have no idea how long he has been diagnosed with this. In fact he did an interview back on October 24th before any of this started where he mentions suffering from PTSD from flying: http://www.hoopsworld.com/royce-white-ready-to-conquer-anxiety-nba/

Now, HOOPSWORLD caught up with White recently to get his side of the story.

The 21-year-old rookie out of Iowa State says that his issues with flying actually started in high school when he was making the rounds in the high school basketball circuit. White isn’t shy about his issues, and shared what he goes through every time he steps foot on an airplane.

“It creates a little bit of worry for me,” White told HOOPSWORLD of his experiences getting onto a plane. “I get nervous and different things like that when I know I have to fly. I deal with a little PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from having to fly before and I’ve had a bunch of panic attacks. When I first started having panic attacks was actually when I first started having to fly a lot in the circuit in high school. That just comes back up in my mind when we get ready to fly and stuff like that. But other than that, it’s just something that I just try to deal with and get through as best as possible.”
I challenge you to find this quote. You won't because it doesn't exist and it hasn't been deleted either. Obviously it would be quoted multiple times in this thread if it had ever been said. You are combining the report that he complained about his lack of playing time to Morey and concerns about anxiety relating to that with his report that he suffers from PTSD. In fact if you google Royce White diagnosed himself, your post is the only thing that pops up on the topic.

Except they aren't his words. They are your interpretation of his words. He has said enough damaging things himself with out making things up.

You might be right, you might be wrong. Do you think he consulted with the player's union and what their stance was on the situtation before he tweeted that? The fact is you are speculating about what he meant and stating it as if it is a fact.

I was responding directly to a person that said "the lesson is never to hire the mentally ill." That post had nothing to do with Royce White. I am mentally ill and I took that post personally so I listed a number of great leaders that had mental illnesses. I'm pretty sick of all the voices in this thread saying something akin to "don't hire the mentally ill." I am no Abe Lincoln by any means but I am also successful in my field and I have bipolar type 1 and intermittent explosive disorder. I also suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks. That doesn't mean I'm not good at running a theatre company or directing plays. In fact, it probably makes me better at it... as was the case with the great men I listed.

But my post was not about Royce White, nor was the one to which I replied.
