Listen man, you have to understand the demographic you're talking to. While the NBA Dish and D&D have some decent posters, the Hangout is a who's who of degenerates. That can generally said about anyone who is part of an online community based on leisure, not a specific topic. It's best to let the rats duke it out in the sewers and not try to show them the importance of being human. Even on their best days they'll never receive a sense of respect and dignity from others around them, so you can't expect them to act above anything. They'll do anything to kill the mediocrity of their existence.. it's not that different to 35 year old housewives embroiled in community gossip and voyeurism because they have no swagger or identity of their own. Sometimes you just have to throw them a bone and watch em go. The bitter jabs are more a reflection on their own issues and lack of life experience than anything relevant. It's the sad reality of internet, but one you have to acknowledge and detach yourself from.
