Yes, minority share -- both, unless they provide a united front. Then they become majority. (And if they are smart, "You scratch my back, I scratch yours" should be their motto.) If not, I guess Comcast has final say. But I don't see Mr. Alexander as a passive guy regarding PR for the organization. His recent comments about the Royce White situation would indicate he isn't one to allow himself (or the organization) to suffer abuse or be a shrinking violet. That's why I said what I did. This is reflecting on the organization -- and him. The fans are just as much part of the Rockets "family" as the players and other employees. C'mon, Les. Why not at least make some public comments to help things along. That would help the PR situation, too. I'm actually a bit surprised he would get into a deal with so, seeming, little control. Crane? I don't know. But this article might be some indicator. The FBI (??!!) was on the case. Maybe he'll watch "Miracle on 34th Street" early this year. Fans... customers... humans... know when they are being treated well or not.
I don't watch that much television. Most of the shows I like to keep up with, like "the first 48", etc, I can get on Netflix. My primary reason for having DTV or cable, is so I can watch live sports, and the Rockets are a big part of that. If I'm shelling out $75.00 a month ant watch the game? That's crazy!. The greedy mofos responsible for this done gone stone crazy!
Sad thing is, when it gets resolved all will be back to normal and no one will care....And the cable companies know that
just my personal take on this: The rockets are responsible for this. when they sold their rights to comcast they knew something like this was inevitable/going to happen, but they did it anyway. comcast paid a pretty price for the right to do this, and since they did should in their best interest hold out as long as possible to get the best deal for themselves. they don't owe anyone in the city of houston anything. the rockets on the other hand had their stadium built by the city, and do owe the fans. Rockets chose this path, and it all started with them. they should be the ones to blame.
or people will start complaining why the blackout didnt last longer.. now the cable companies are making us watch a horrible team..
I feel really disconnected from the team. Feels weird since I've watched every game for pretty much the last 6 years but a fan since 1992. At least I've got the Texans.
I know exactly how you feel, I haven't seen one game this season. Fox Sports SW where I used to watch the games is showing all Mavs games. Interestingly, the Mavs have virtually turned over players sort of like the Rockets. Since Dirk is out, it is a whole new group. Really feels weird watching Mavs games and feeling like I am not watching the Mavs I always hated.
I think its time for us fans to start a collection and take a full page ad out in the chronicle to deliver our message to Mr. Crane and Mr. Alexander. This is ridiculous.
It won't matter. Mr. Crane and Mr. Alexander aren't in the discussions at this point. They signed an agreement with Comcast and gave authority to Comcast to make deals with other cable/dish providers. The Rockets and Astros front offices are not involved at this point.
Don't you think they would have some influence? How long is their contract for and is there an exit clause? Also, Comcast is not going to benefit from bad press.
Correct. Crane and Alexander got theirs and that's all they care about. They knew what they were doing to fans when they did it. But, hey, "it's a business." And they made their money. Count on it. That's why I can't vote in the poll -- I blame Les Alexander for the fact that I can't watch my hometeam play basketball.
If they are owners, they have influence and an interest of the profitability of the station going forward. A full page ad stating that "we do not blame Comcast or our providers and hold the owners of both the Rockets and Astros personally responsible for this" is a strong statement. Furthermore, a commitment to boycott any advertisers such as Toyota, Jack in Box, Saved by Zero, C&D scrap metal is an added leverage point the fans can use. Trust me, you start messing with their cash flows, things will change. The question is, how much is a full page ad and is this a feasable undertaking with the resources of clutchfans?
^ "I BEG YOU." I will give some money if you do it. Hit me up via email if you do. I had thought about asking the Clutchfan brethren about this a couple days ago, and never did.
I'll look into it. -edit: A full page ad in the Sports section on a Sunday is a cool 24k. For a Wednesday, its 17k. Not sure I could raise that much via donations from fans.
I think holding a protest in front of Toyota Center before a game would be just as effective. Plus if we do something news worthy it would show up on the paper anyway.
