    New petition available here:

    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pe...tate-texas-remain-part-united-states/TDD212hQ

Peacefully grant the city of Austin Texas to withdraw from the state of Texas & remain part of the United States.

Austin Texas continues to suffer difficulties stemming from the lack of civil, religious, and political freedoms imposed upon the city by less liberally minded Texans. It is entirely feasible for Austin to operate as its own state, within the United States, in the event that Texas is successful in the current bid to secede. It is important for Austin to remain in the union as to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers.

We would also like to annex Dublin Texas, Lockhart Texas, & Shiner Texas.

A step in the right direction.

Once individuals are allowed their sovereignty and can "secede", that's when we all win.

You join the great Republic. This ain't gonna be Israel where we have to deal with donut holes while you lobs crap at us! And then sure start stuff and blame us for retaliating with incoming...no thanks, screw that . . Texas wishes for the greater boundaries pre-Louisiana purchase as the onset of negotiations. You want peace?, give us land!

This entire topic is very amusing and at the same time thought-provoking.

The United States was built by traitors that felt they were wrongly treated. Is it so unimaginable and disgusting to think that at some point, it could happen again? Not that I support or endorse it by any means, I would not partake in the slightest in Texas seceding from the US, but I do find it funny how many people get all riled up about this. I wonder how many people really wanted to break away from England, or how many people really wanted to secede from the Union?

At the same time, let's imagine Texas or any other state did, in fact, secede once again. Do you feel the US would really go into another Civil War in this day and age? That thought is most intriguing.

The U.S. theoretically could defeat the Republic of Texas, but the cost would be too much. Drones would quell militarized guard targets, but a ground game would prove too costly...too many cells of armed populous numbered in the millions...i.e.d.s, .50 armor piercing, incendiary, and billions of small arms munitions would have to be dealt with.

The Republic could only muster minor counter attacks, mainly against the sympathetic civilian populace or infrastructure in states near Texas boundaries to pressure the U.S.

Countries may take sides and provide military aid to the Republic or sense a chance to strike the northern states to flank the areas of conflict...

It would be very scary, costly in lives and money, and too dramatic for civilians on both sides to bear....not something I would want

Barack Obama /= King George III

Actually there were a lot of people who didn't want to succeed from England. We call those people Canadians.

I think some people actually moved there before the revolutionary war and many decendents of those who made that decision are still living there... Btw, Supposedly Vancouver is an awesome city but too wild/cold in most of the country.

I would love to visit there one day. Supposedly, it doesn't turn dark till 10 pm everynight

Fantasies about Guerrilla style battles with the military are fun "WOLVERINES!" but very unlikely to happen in the event of a true secession. If Texas were to secede and the US were to use force to keep them in the Union most likely that force would take the place of first cyber attacks and then targeted air strikes against infrastructure and military targets. That would be taking place simultaneously with an economic blockade. Being one of the states that ranks near the top of the fattest states I doubt most Texans would be willing to put up with sitting in the dark and starving for an extended period of time just to stick it to the Fed.

There were people in Canada before the Revolutionary war but many of the Monarchists in the 13 Colonies fled there after the war.

Also it not turning dark until 10 PM in Vancouver is only in Summer. It get's dark around 4PM in Winter. It's the same here in MN.

this is what ive been trying to tell family and friends who like the idea.. My biggest concern is war on Texas soil... 30000 land troops doesnt compare to drones, F-18s and carriers in the gulf

Your biggest fantasy concern should be the millions of people who didn't want to fight against the U.S. willing to fight against the Texas fantasy independence.

Cool, hopefully they inter-mingle...then the Feds won't know who the enemy is while guerrilla tactics are employed. Lol....Wolverine! i know...The lib civies think they can fight with code pink destroying cars or whale wars acting the fools as proof, but they have nothing...we have bayonets, they have smelly stuff

We all hate each other more than anything. This world needs something better.

Over 40% of the people in TX voted for Obama. A much, much higher percentage, including the non-crazy Republicans would resist secession. Let's not pretend that 95% of Texans are in favor of leaving the Union. It's a small crew of dead-enders who are throwing a hissy-fit because their boy lost (or, more likely, the other guy won).

And yes, if Texas tried, it would be violent. After all, the President has those black helicopters and UN troops he can call on at any time. Rooting bubbas out county-by-county shouldn't take much time.

Once conquered, I'm sure Obama would make the case that Texas needed to be ruled separately for a bit and declare military/sharia law. Gays from all over the US would be herded into forced settlements converted from wingnut ranches. It will be illegal for any meal to be more than 20% meat and less than 20% kale. Beef BBQ would be outlawed in favor of Carolina style pork and chili would only be served Cincinnati style. The Cowboys would move to Oklahoma City, the Texans would move to Los Angeles and become the LA Actors, the Rockets to San Diego, the Mavericks to Seattle, and the Spurs to Kansas City (after all, it is the NATIONAL Football League and the NATIONAL BBall Association). Nobody cares about the baseball teams. The University of Texas would move to Albuquerque, take over UNM, and be known as the University of TexMex, Texas Tech would move to Altus, OK, Texas A&M would move to Zwolle, LA while Baylor would become the new University of Baptist Texas and TCU and SMU would stay put. High School football could only be coached by volunteers and every kid who tries out would be on the team and guaranteed a quarter of play per game and a participation letter jacket. Billboards would be outlawed and recycling would be required. All dealerships would be shut down except for Prius and Smart Cars. Bicycle paths would be built. Worst of all, real textbooks would be used in schools.

The u.s. can't afford it, Texas can't win...this is like the 1982 movie Thing, where you know one of the 2 last survivors left is infected with the alien, but going against each other would eventually doom the winner...so we just sit between the fire amid the wreckage. . .

The US could afford it. And would. Fortunately, 1861 is part of our past and not part of our future, in spite of a few yahoos.
