While Rand Paul makes frequent mention of "1984" and George Orwell, Paul fails to mention that Orwell was a democratic socialist. Orwell believed in the concept of democratic and "good" government, not libertarianism.

No. Not even close. However, as the inequality gap between the haves and have-nots widens more and more, this trend of taxing the well-being for the poor is going to move forward.
BTW, there is a piece on WSJ saying that many major US companies are comtemplating hiring freezes and even layoffs in anticipation of tax increases and fisical cliff.
Increased surveillance and erosion of privacy? Yes, and Obama has only increased these. Organized and pervasive propaganda? Well, not yet, though Fox gives a kind of model, at least for one party instead of the whole government. Amorphous and ongoing wars? Yes, got those. Victory Gin? Hmmm. Tough one. Mountain Dew maybe? Coors Light?
In the minds of "libertarians" like rtsy all citizens are equally free to invest in elections; only some folks like billionaires are more equal than little guys like rtsy.

Not really. But if as a country we do eventually reach that point, the two most important names in the history books would be Bin Laden and Bush. 9/11 and the subsequent actions pretty much opened the path for a 1984 society.
I think the GOP wants the fiscal cliff to happen, so the economy will tank and they can do well is 2014. That's all they care about - winning elections. It's the only way their party can become relevant again. I hope the American people see through it and punish them instead.
Absolutely hilarious that Rand Paul uses this to scare people. Thanks. I don't know whether I should cry, laugh or both. Btw, Huxley was Orwell's teacher for a while. Both admired each other's work. This. Only you'd think it would have to be obvious. They'll have to be even craftier in their "Nuh uh, you are" approach than they were the past cycle or dozens of people will see right through it.
It's been planned this way. This group in the shadows has maintained control over us since Time Immemorial, they just change up the type and methods of controls. People now days laugh at how easy it was to manipulate people in the Dark Ages but don't realize that while we have advanced academically as a society, we are still psychologically manipulated by the Powers That Be and always have been though this has begun to lessen thanks to the internet age. People laugh at conspiracy theories and there is a lot of junk out there but the problem is they have a hard time even knowing where to begin to decipher the lies from the truth.
