I don't think Royce's case would fall under the ADA.

The ADA specifically makes exceptions for those who's disability would preclude them from being able to perform their jobs.

It's why the Military, FBI, CIA, Fire Department and Police Departments are allowed to have physical fitness and mental suitability testing and assessments.

The NBA, NFL and NHL are no more required to field players that are physically disabled than they are required to field players that are mentally unable to endure the rigors of their profession.

Royce White can only argue a breach of contract IF the Rockets have not made reasonable efforts to support him in the way required by their agreements. Beyond that, it is White's responsibility to perform his duties as an NBA player as stipulated by the CBA.

This includes media interviews and pressers, NBA sponsored promotional events, NBA games, AND D-League assignments.

So, unless White is arguing that the Rockets are in breach of contract, then Royce White has no means of redress or seeking damages. The ADA will not help him in this specific situation.

I want to see the guy succeed while playing for the Rockets but this is getting bad.

Reminds me a bit of the Hakeem and Rockets, he said they said Injury issue except Hakeem was worth the headache.

Royce hasn't proven he deserves anything on the court and needs to accept they help they are trying to provide for his illness and the playing time in RGV to work on his game.

Go south and beast and you'll be back on the big stage in no time.

The more I read this thread, the more I come to the same conclusion:

Royce White you are a moron

Stop blaming everyone else for YOUR decision to try and make it in the NBA

Can one sue his employer if they don't give him the promotion? Didn't someone say before there is some law regarding working cOCD patients?

NBA players are technically not employees. They are independent contractors to the team they play for.

isn't his doctor in Minnesota? So how would he "see' this doc? Over skype? He wasn't going to go to Minnesota for regular check ups during the season (was he going to bus up there on weekends???) and therefore I'm sure the Rockets wanted him to have a local contact in Houston.

I'm sure nothing prevented Royce from "seeing" his doctor--the Rockets can't deny you access to see whomever you want on your own time, so he is really complaining about having to attend sessions with a Houston area doctor, which I'm guessing was part of the Rockets contract.

sorry Royce, but I'm missing your #logic

Wow. I just don't see any way for him to turn it around at this point. What a damn shame. What a damn joke.

It probably is a tough one from a player's union perspective. If he had a broken leg or something, then it would be a clear health issue why he's out, though if the team still wanted him to attend practices/games, I don't see why they couldn't still fine him, but certainly the player's union would complain about a large fine.

He can certainly frame it all as a mental issue, and thus a health issue, and thus similar to if he was otherwise physically injured.

I don't buy it. Not because I disregard mental illness, but because the Rockets have gone out of their way apparently to accommodate, and Royce's actions speak too petulant child, not anxiety.

Okay, Chapelle, you got me laughing here at work.

As I've mentioned, EVERYthing this guy is doing right now comes from anxiety disorder.

My ex-(thank God)-girlfriend would do this. When I'd try to distance myself from her because nothing I'd say would make a difference, when no amount of reason would reach her, she'd send me a gajillion crazy-a$$ e-mails a day, not realizing in the least that she was just making things worse.

As far as that relationship, I couldn't just walk away, I had to wait for the train to slow down as it reached a sharp curve....and then I flung myself, did a tuck and roll, and just kept running.

Let's see how this plays out between Royce and the Rox.
