Gasol is shooting 40% for the season now. In the 8 games played so far, hes shot over 50% and above only twice Hes shooting 12% from 3 to 9 feet http://hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=Pau Gasol
LOL Stop being a Rocket fan for a second and put yourself in the Lakers situation. Kobe has 2 good years left. Either they win it now or next year, that's their goal. Do you honestly think Mitch Kupchak look at Patterson and Lin and see championship rings this year or next? The Lakers main advantage against a matchup with Miami would be their size. Dwight and Gasol. Why in the world would you change that to a Dwight and Patterson frontline when the goal is to win NOW? The mere fact that you don't give a damn if Patterson gets traded or not basically shows what his trade value is.
lakers cant handle another long term max contract. kobe, meta, Howard and nash forget CP3 Lin is going because his high bb IQ, he is young, he can bring money by himself and all market value . and Dantoni and Nash mesh well with him.
LOL I quit. For what it's worth.. A Gasol trade doesn't make sense for what the Lakers and the Rockets are trying to accomplish.
Actually, the problem for the Lakers is the way their roster is currently constructed does not fit D'Antoni's offense particularly well. D'Antoni's offense is predicated on a few basic things... 1) A PG with strong and quick decision making skills 2) One good pick and roll Big Men 3) 3 point shooters to spread the floor Everything else can be modified in terms of pace, shot speed, etc, but those are the essential components. In terms of a PG, they have Nash. Dwight is the best PnR big man in the league. Kobe and MWP can set picks and are reasonable 3 point shooters. Gasol is good in the 16-23 foot range (43% in 11/12), he's not nearly so good at the 3 point line (25% in 11/12). He's also redundant in terms of being a PnR partner with Dwight already on the floor. Ideally what they need is a stretch 4, but a cheaper 3 point shooter would serve much the same purpose (spread the floor). Additionally, with Nash already 40 years old AND Kobe retiring in 2 years, they need to start adding younger players to not only strengthen their bench (which is VERY weak) and to add Depth in case of Injury (Nash currently is out with a tibia fracture), but to convince Dwight that the Lakers are building youth into the team so that it can transition PAST the Kobe era With him so that he sign an Extension. Toss in that the Lakers' salary is approaching $100M (DEEP into the Luxury Taxes) AND that Pau Gasol is an expiring contract at the end of this year who's contract with most likely NOT increase in value from this point, and there's every incentive for them to move Gasol from both a basketball and financial point of view. And if you really understood the Buss family, they are never Solely about "win now"... they are "win now AND win later". That's likely part of why they signed D'Antoni for 4 years instead of gambling on Phil Jackson for 1 or 2.
Houston is cheap and there is no future for the young prospects. Right now the coach has no clue. An iso Harden is in the making. God knows his first 2 games are the flash in the pan. Too many pieces are missing. Lin is sacrificing his own development for the team. Just let him go.
MDA needs 3pt shooters. Would be sooooo happy if Lin went to the Lakers with Nash and MDA and KOBE. Yeahyah please let it happen please please please pretty please...
Nash can't play at the franatic pace of a MDA offense. AND plus an MDA offense depends ENTIRELY on the pg and Nash is too old and too fragile. If he gets injured the Lakers are out of the race. And plus Nash can't play too many minutes per night. PLUS they are WIN NOW and not many pg have experience of a MDA system. Thats why they didnt hire Phil because the triangle was too hard to learn.
Lin for whatever the Lakers give us, except Dwight is not going to benefit Rockets. The Lakers are banking everything for this few years, we should not let them re-tooled. We need Gasol-type player, but not the price the Lakers are going to ask for. We are developing, the Lakers are closed to maxed out. In a few years, they will have to start from scratch, even if they get big time players, it needs time to develop unless they somehow can put the current Miami Heat-type team together.
Gasol's skill-set would be perfect for the Rockets if........................he was in his mid 20's. While he would fit in nicely with Harden / Lin now, he is too old. He would not make us a championship team although he would make us better. I hope Donatas Motiejūnas can develop to be a P. Gasol type player. I think he has the ability. The only Power Forwards I think that would be worth pursuing are LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland), Kevin Love (Minnesota), or Anthony Davis (New Orleans). I doubt any of them get traded any time soon, so our best bet is to try to develop Donatas Motiejūnas or hope we get a high lottery pick this year.
Gasol for Lin? I don't think salaries match but Houston can throw in a PF to even things out. Everybody comes out happy here: Houston fans/Lin haters get rid of Lin and in return get a good scoring PF with European ancestry, a guy they can relate to more. Lin gets reunited with Dantoni and mentored by Nash, LA fans have been used to championships so they will not be as hard on Lin because they are not as angry and discontented. With LA's massive Asian population Lin would get much more support than in a state like Texas. Lin fans are happy Everybody wins here, Rox fans/Lin Haters, Lin, Lin fans, and Texans
The Lakers don't. If you are in a win now mode, you can't trade Pau for a backup to Nash. They'll probably look to trade Pau to cut salaries, but I imagine they'll find better offers / fits.
Precisely... Houston with this idiotic coaching staff couldn't care less about losing Lin. Gasol would definitely attract another star. Lin learns from Nash and eventually replaces him when Nash and Kobe retire. He'll you don't think Stern would love a laker Knicks finals in his last year at the helm with a little linsanity vs Knicks thrown in? Sorry folks just fantasizing because Lin camping out T the corner right now is a nightmare.
Only way I see Pau in Rocket's red is a 3 way with ATL involved, and that would mean that 1) they are willing to trade JS and 2) they don't want Pau. Highly unlikely, but what's even more unlikely is we trade our 24 y/o, money making machine PG after less than 1 season. Just stop thinking that.
