This is a lose lose situation. If we don't meet Royce's "demands" then we lose him.

Royce's #1 concern is his health. Stepping on an NBA Court is probably the last thing on his mind right now. If we don't help him he'll just quit the NBA.

The Rockets should do everything they can, but if it's too much then Royce wasn't meant to be an NBA player in the first place.

You are thinking about this like a guy withOUT mental health issues. And those bridges may just be burning down as we "speak", unfortunately.

Well, let's see. Royce has bashed the Rockets organization for hours now, called coach Sampson a liar and is threatening Matt Bullard with a defamation suit.

Somehow I doubt there is going to be a happy ending to this. This is not about mental illness. This is about a narcissist using Twitter to beat up on the one team that gave his sorry ass a chance.

After watching his draft night video I was rooting for him the whole way. Calling Matt Bulleyes Bullard a liar..he is dead to me. He's needs to stop tweeting. He is burning not just the Rockets bridge, but any team that sees this. Being a cancer to the team you just joined without proving anything in the league is sad. Serious meltdown.

I absolutely believe Morey got pwned, again. Morey works the crowd- he works the media and they write stories about him in exchange. He is a terrible GM and this is yet another epic fail by him.

I'm sure he is right. The Rockets treat all of their players like assets except Harden. They should not have drafted Royce. He is a player who would have done better on a team that has more compassionate ownership and management. If you watch McHales comments on Royce throughout the offseason you see that he takes mental illness as a joke.

Royce is not handling this right though. i've never seen a player be so public about his discontent with a team. If he ever plays a day as a Rocket I will be beyond surprised. The team messed this up but there is no turning back.

I hope Royce White reads your posts. Your daughter is an inspiration to most of us. I still can't believe people on ClutchFans got her Rockets gear. Amazing.

Its early in the season but so far he is averaging 0.0 PPG, 0.0 APG, 0.0 RBG, and 23 Tweets per night.

Royce White as Humpty Dumpty - This is the not the NBA fantasy the Rockets had in mind.

    I have 2 questions:

Does White take/need medication for his disorder?
Does the league permit players to have ant-psychotics in their system during a game? I am not sure if Royce is the first case.

Maybe the league sees whatever he takes as an unfair advantage because everyone has to deal with anxiety.

    1) I'm not sure that "sticking their necks out to draft a player with known mental issues" is the right way to phrase it. Every team drafting after pick #1 or #2 is taking a risk in the draft. The Rockets knew what risks they were getting. They would have been rolling the dice with a Fab Melo too.
    4) They can say they've made accommodations but only they and Royce's people really know what those are. How do we know they're living up to what they agreed to do?

"What are the implications in terms of negative PR, public goodwill and potentially financial loss if White is not recieving the necessary support to develop as a Basketball player?"
The financial loss is really negligible. But the public has pretty much shown a quick response to side with the Rockets organization against Royce (or at least what I've read) to show that negative PR is not an issue. And if they're afraid of negative PR then that's why they're saying "we've scheduled him all of these mental health visits and he hasn't attended any of them." What good does that statement do to helping Royce? Nothing, it's SPIN that's being used to hurt our perception of Royce.

"What would the Rockets have to gain by NOT working with White and accomodating him in the BEST way possible under their working agreement?"

I don't know what they have to gain. Isn't it possible they made agreements with Royce (underestimating the severity of his issues) and then decided that they didn't want to honor their agreements? It would be easy to do as the public has no real idea what their agreements were in the first place.

What is the DOWNSIDE of NOT living up to their end of the agreement?"

The downside is they lose their #16 pick. The public will likely accept whatever potential reasons the organization gives whether they're true or not.

If you can profer a reasonable explanation for Why the Rockets would do that, please post it.

I can "proffer" this reason: The Rockets (possibly) made an agreement with Royce that they now are having difficulty honoring.

My counter is this: Can you proffer a reason why Royce would go to all this trouble to get his side of the story out? The easy answer is "he's crazy", which is easily lapped up by a public that does not understand mental illness and is more than willing to pile on. As I said before, IF his publicist/agent is okaying his public comments then the whole "crazy" idea doesn't hold much water. It's possible that he and the Rockets are still trying to flesh out their agreement regarding his travel and such and this war of words is the manifestation of that process.
