So you actually think "global warming", uh excuse me "climate change" caused the hurricane. You act like this is the first hurricane to ever hit the area. The loss off life is tragic but there is no proof that this was caused by anything man-made.

Not only do I think it, but scientists also think that absent global warming, the intensity of this would have been meaningfully less.

It's not the first hurricane to hit the area. But it was the largest recorded hurricane in Atlantic history.

Sooner or later it's going to be impossible to deny the obvious, what 99.9% of scientists generally agree on. We have man made global warming, it has created large fundamental shifts in global climate patterns, and those shifts will have far reaching consequences.

It's nice and all to say, "well, hurricanes happen anyways" or "should we really change our whole system and invest in the Solyndras of the world because of this theory" but we can't change what's actually happening.

The size and scope of this storm was like never before for the northern Atlantic coast. So we may have some down years, but then we'll have some crazy years. We're going to see volatile, extreme weathers. Month after month of hottest months on record, as we've seen. Prolonged droughts, as we've seen. Volatile, intense hurricanes, as we've seen.

All for what? To line really really really rich people's pockets with more money.

To listen to people who have now been consistently WRONG about the topic. To the same group of people literally too incompetent to figure out mathmatics and polling, to understand obvious large demographic shifts. People like you. Defiant. Better than thou. Wrong.

I'm halfway surprised that more liberals that post here don't move . Its like a progressive utopia there isn't it. I mean they even have a state income tax!!!

Wait.....there's no jobs there and the cost of living is freaking out the wazoo.

Guess they'll stay in the red state....Texas....where there are jobs, decent cost of living and no state income tax.

I love pointing out these facts whenver the goofball secessionists show up. Go ahead and secede...that'll be ****ing hilarious. Hello Mexico part deux.

Or, perhaps even better, let's point out the amusing fact that the executive branch of the federal government has no authority to determine what territories are or are not states...so accordingly these petitions aren't just stupid, they're exceptionally stupid.

EDIT: *I should point out the quoted bits are from slashdot.

We should end welfare to red states and counties. Why can't they work and stop taking our money? Most of my tax dollars goes to support idiots that vote for Romney.

Stop leeching off of us your right wing nuts!

This is embarassing and literally makes me angry. I can not believe how quickly these "patriot" flag-waving fools turn their back on this country. Pisses me off.

Since when are right wing extremists patriots? Their only loyalties are to their extreme views.

It's obvious this is just a temporary temper tantrum being thrown.

But honestly, in the long run, I think everybody might be happier if the country did separate into 3 or 4 separate, but very loosley joined, entities. Super states, perhaps.

Sometimes marriages go sour. Ain't no shame in that game.

no, thank you. if we can sustain a union in the wake of slavery, Reconstruction, the Civil Rights Movement, the Great Depression, and 2 world wars, we can survive this.

Doubtful - if you haven't noticed by now, my posts are generally oriented to laughing at, not with, neo-secessionist clown shows.

    As we all should.

I guess I'm just tired of putting up with red states' b****ing. :)

The other solution would be to drag them, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century by getting rid of all the obstructionist tools at their disposal.

If there were actually profound differences (ethnic religious etc) between the groups, maybe this would make more sense, but frankly breaking up the country because you think a 39.6% marginal tax rate on income over $250,000 is Marxist-Leninism whereas a 35% rate is ordained by god and country isn't really a valid one.
