I can see it gaining that kind of steam. The higher profile Rose Bowl games already get some of that kind of action.
Who is to say the champs from the Big East or Big Ten are not better than the number 2 team in another conference? A computer? A sports geek? A group of sports geeks? If you want subjectivity then what's the point of a play-off. If you want a system that picks champions based on which teams people prefer to watch and not who actually proved it on the field then this whole play-off thing is absolutely pointless. Champions should be decided on the field and not by some stats geek sitting behind a desk.
Deciding who the best teams are IS the problem. It should be decided on the field and not by a poll, a computer or a panal of sports geeks. Conference champs are decided on the field therefor conference champs should never be omitted from a play-off by a team that lost there conference.
Meh. K-State beat OU that one year OU was undefeated. Neither team deserved to play in the title game but any bozo could give the teams an eyeball test and tell OU was better. Gimmie the best teams. Some teams don't even have a conference.
Did they prove it on the field? Your oppinion does not support the results. Thats why it should be the goal to remove subjectivity. Your eyes failed you. If OU is the better team let them prove it on the field. I don't want to hear about any damn eyeball test. You know what my eyeball test is? What I see on the scoreboard at the end of the game. If OU were good enough they would have won against KState but they lost. These are the facts, and they can not be disputed. I don't want subjective.
Again, this is the myth that regular season games and conference games are part of a playoff. That was just marketing speak. The playoff is now the playoff. Previously, there was no playoff. Packers lost to the Chiefs. The Chiefs deserve to go to the playoffs? Every other sport has a regular playoff system, why cant college football? Y'all are trying to solve a problem with a minor solution because the BCS has beat y'all into submission. The very basis of disruptive innovation is to change something so dramatically that all stessors are alleviated. Y'all just want to put a bandaid on one thing and push the pain point somewhere else.
Regular season games and conference championships factor into rankings so in effect they are apart of the play-offs. Furthermore, in the NFL all division champs go to the play-offs so no big deal to me if they send some wild card teams because it is all decided on the field. The only way to remove as much subjectivity as possible from a college football championship is to only include conference champions because conference champions are decided on the field with little to no subjectivity involved. Alabama may very well had been better than OSU last season but they had the same record with no like opponents therefore Alabama going to the national championship was a subjective decision. LSU won their conference on the field and deserved a shot at the national title, OSU won their conference with the 2nd best record in the country and they deserved a shot, Alabama did nothing to deserve a second chance at the national title but because of subjectivity they were selected ahead of OSU. Maybe OSU would have beaten LSU maybe they would not have, that is nothing but a discussion based on oppinion and not fact and we will never know for sure. This very same scenario has a chance of playing out again if a second place conference team is given a shot at a national title and a conference champion is left out. Championships should be earned on the field, period. Championships should never be decided by a computer or a group of 50 something guys talking in a room.
In every other sport, division champions go to the playoffs first, regardless of record. Only after all of them are invited are wildcards considered.
A team can not win its division and lose to the division champion twice and still win the Superbowl... we need human insight to balance factors like playing on the road, injuries, suspensions, yada yada, blah blah blah. Hell in the NFL there's a recent trend where a hot team represents one side, a hot team that had a mediocre regular season. This is America - home of 2nd chances - cry or move to Canada. Spoiler suckers
All of the Division winners get a shot in the play-offs in the NFL therefore championships are won strictly on the field and not with human insight. Human insight is flawed and subjective, we do not need it. If college football would just let the conference champs play each other for the right to play in the championship game then all subjectivity would be gone.... all of it. Subjectivity not needed and not wanted. Subjectivity is only for those people who want to muddy the waters. BTW, The Giants lost to the Eastern Conference Division winning Dallas Cowboys twice 5 years ago and still won the superbowl. Of course the Cows had a chance to win in the play-offs and lost it on the field. No human insight needed.
Looks like Houston is out in the quest to host the inaugural College Football Championship Game. Didn't think they'd have much of a chance to get the first game, but it is still disappointing! Hopefully, they can get into the rotation somehow although it looks like the top 6 venues are now pretty much confirmed (Arlington, Atlanta, Glendale, Miami, New Orleans, and Pasadena). Maybe the Rose Bowl decides to stay out and just do Pac 12/Big 10? link
They meant Jerry's world. The Cotton Bowl is a dumpster and is located in Dallas. Jerry's World is in Arlington.
B... bu... but... 6 out of 10 times those teams suck. Get me another SEC or Big 12'er in there or something.
Boise St has rotten luck. They move to the Mountain West and then it implodes. They move to the Big East and it looses an auto bid to a big bowl.
