Actually, thinking about it it wouldn't be unthinkable for the Lakers to offer Gasol + Blake for Lin + Parsons + Delfino. Currently, the Lakers' back up PG is Steve Blake. Lin would be a HUGE upgrade in the back up spot. D'Antoni is already well known to really like Lin's game, and putting him behind Steve Nash would allow D'Antoni to manage Nash's minutes over the next 3 years. Delfino's 3 point shooting would help the Lakers spread the floor. Parsons is a decent defender with upside and would strengthen their bench with an average 3 point shot. Salaries = $8.3M + $3.0M + $3.0M = $14M Even their contract lengths line up nicely. (3/3/2). Don't be shocked if Morey does some wheeling and dealing....
Are we trying to contend with Miami/OKC? With Gasol and his salary, we have the same chance(about 0) of contending even if he comes for free.
Based on the type of players MDA likes in his system I think Patterson would be the lynchpin of any deal. A PF that can hit mid range jumpers and spread the floor like Stat did in PHX.
I would be all in for this trade. But will Lin's contract also count as 8.3 if he is traded to Lakers. I thought it count for Houston is because of houston's cap is below the threshold. No?
I can't wait until this guy retires so I can stop the long nightmare of speculation of him playing for my Rockets.
I don't know if Steve Blake, Toney D and Scott M running the point is what we should be after. Besides, Les didn't twist Morey's arm to get Lin just to hand those Chinese endorsement deals and whatnot to L.A. He got Lin to help convince players to play for Houston and sell a billion jerseys in China.
no doubt Max This is ridiculous. Gasol was a good idea when they were intent on getting anyone that was even close to a superstar, but at this point they will be rebuilding by finding pieces that fit with our young core. Gasol does not fit...period. Morey isn't stupid, some of yall may not like or understand what he does, but I can tell you one thing....pairing a 32 yr old Pau Gasol with a bunch of mid to early 20 somethings is not something I see Morey doing.
Considering the overlapping skill set between Harden and Lin, trading Lin to Lakers for Gasol is a great idea. Lin can learn from Nash, Rockets become a contender instantly.
Just a thought "Gasol Trade" I know he is not the popular answer, but this team needs an inside scoring option for easy buckets. Big empty void left by Scola....
better for Lin, no doubt. but is it better for houston? Harden can really play pg full time? As another poster mentioned, who starts as pg? having said that, I like the trade if it happens.
I guess you wouldn't know the things Gasol said last year about playing for the Rockets. If L.A. were to amnesty him and we got him for a nickel, it would still be a terrible deal for the Rockets.
Well, the argument would be that the PG position is MUCH deeper than the PF position. It would be substantially easier to find a PG that could play at least similarly to Lin (or a slight dropoff) than to find a player like Gasol. And who's to say that they don't offer up Blake and maybe even Duhon in the trade? As for attracting players, you give up some international marketing trading Gasol for Lin, but Gasol is just as good an attraction for a top tier superstar in terms of talent. Lots of permutations here, but if Gasol is available, I wouldn't be shocked if Lin goes on the block. Much less likely they would trade Asik as centers are MUCH harder to find than PG's.
