I don't think it was beyond ridiculous what he asked for.

If he want's to be a GM then he has the right to ask for that. The man has been nothing but successful when it comes to this sport. Phil forgets more basketball than any of the guys they have in the FO there. Never know, he could have been great at the Pat Riley role too.

None of D'Antoni teams play any defense also and he's pretty much a good coach for a younger team. He can't play the same fast paced offense with this team, it's just not possible. Can he handle all the ego's on that team?

With Nash & Howard, D'Antoni made more sense.

I think this is a smart move, **** the defense and let nash do his thang.

We should trade them Patterson for Gasol, since patterson can space for them and shoot 3's well even include toney douglas and a bag of chips.

Once Brandon Jennings' time is up in Milwaukee, he'll go home to LA and have his coming out party under D'Antoni. He's built for that run-and-gun system.

We know at the very least that Phil wanted

    - Free, unfettered control over all management decisions. Eh, that seems like a lot, but maybe he just wanted to ensure that management wouldn't make any stupid trades and tarnish his legacy during his last coaching gig ever. I get this. Here's the one that gets me:

    - Didn't want to attend away games or shootarounds. Any way you spin it, it sure sounds like he didn't want to do his freaking job for 41 out of 82 regular season games. That's kind of ridiculous in and of itself, if you think about it. At the very least, and even if things were being run by proxy, it would have made ownership look foolish as they paid a guy who didn't even bother to show up to mug for the camera and argue with officials.

    - We don't know anything about his salary demands yet, but I'm sure they were out of this world.

I was really hoping we could have somehow gotten him! I personally think McHale isn't good for Lin and Harden.... and definitely not good for our rookies who are actually good and need to see more PT.

D'Antoni does work well with Nash. And L.A. will have enough firepower to score 120 points every night. Can they play any defense? That will be the question that decides whether they will compete with Miami for a championship or not.

[RQUOTER]It had been widely anticipated that the Lakers would be bringing back Jackson after deciding to oust Brown just five games into the regular season, but sources said that the Lakers ultimately couldn't stomach Jackson's contract demands to return, which were believed to include a salary ranging from $10 to 15 million annually, significant say in personnel decisions as well as his eventual replacement along with the ability for the 67-year-old to skip selected road games.

Phil would have been there for every playoff game though. The man is nearly 70 years old though, I don't think he was making a excuse about his limited travel.

I don't think the salary thing was ever a issue with them, It was always said that the control of the organization was going to be a issue. Since Jim Buss has that control.

With that said, Phil gives any team with that kind of roster the best shot at winning a championship.

I don't think his demands were ridiculous because he's Phil Jackson. He demands what he wants and is nearing 70 years old. If he's not going to get a FO job for this then why return if he can barely manage to stand on the sidelines any more?

One thing though that is never understood is that Phil can take a superstar player...and take him to the next level. He would have made Dwight scary, not by improving his post game...but mentally. Phil is a master at that stuff. He gets his guys to believe in themselves as corny as it sounds. That's why he got the absolute best from Odom and no one else could.

We'll see...I think MDA can still wreck that team. Which I wouldn't mind watching any ways. He's the opposite of Mike Brown. Brown a established defensive coach whose teams suck at offense...Pringles an established offensive coach whose teams suck at defense.

Yeah, take away the power of someone who got Nash and Dwight and then give it to someone who wanted to trade Kobe for Kidd and drafted Luke Walton and Kareem Rush. Also, give out part ownership and potentially let someone other than your son own the team when you passes away. Brilliant idea!!

No, the Buss family did not get Dwight. Playing in L.A did that. Just like how playing in Brooklyn or NY can get you Carmelo Anthony or nearly Dwight Howard despite years of those franchises making dumb move after dumb move.

Also getting on a 2nd round 32nd pick Luke Walton. In fact Walton was great value for that pick, dude is still in the league.

I'm pretty sure that Phil didn't want part ownership of the team. He wanted a executive role, pretty much it was said he wanted the same role as Pat Riley. I seriously doubt Phil was asking for a stake in the team, the only way to even do that is to buy into the team...
