Nope, he isn't there to see things with his own eyes or coach the way he wants. He can still advise his assistants but conversations won't be enough and given the fact that it is a leave of absence with no clear cut end date, the situation with his family may be of the nature that thinking of basketball as coach is not possible.

any updates on the McHale situation? And some of you guys smh. What would firing McHale change anyway? Our roster is a 35 win team at best. No coach is gonna put this current team over the top so stop putting it all on him, especially at a time like this.

^ development. The question is whether McHale is the right coach to develop our current young players.

Either way, I hope the best for the McHale and his family.

Could be a dignified way for McHale to bow out.

I agree 100% but we need to get another coach and not have Kelvin take over

Knowelege on McHales leave of absence

CtObviously wish him and his family the best, and there obviously trying to keep it private but these things always have a way of leaking. Does anyone have in info on what's going on? I saw on ESPN they upgraded his leave to indefinite I know in the private sector or non sports business world that usually calls into questions of FMLA and job placing rights as its usually life threatening illness or injury. Obviously this effects our team as all of the post game interviewa mentioned McHale and some dramatic statements supporting him - obviously they know whats happening. Anyone else know anything?

His daughter is very ill, apparently. Its a personal family matter and evidently very serious, and I don't think we need to know any more than that. I just hope it turns out OK for him and his family.

Very sorry to hear that. I really appreciated how Sampson implied that there are some things more important than basketball. I think that as a whole, we Clutchfans forget that quite often.

Totally agree and I'm sad to hear. I was worried it might be something related to serious illness. I just hadn't seen anything other than the for family reasons. Thanks for your post. God speed to the McHale family. Hopefully Rockets can continue to do well in his honor.

Kevin McHale has taken a leave of absence from the Houston Rockets to attend to "a personal family matter."

McHale's youngest daughter, Alexandra, has had health issues.

    McHale has returned to Minnesota.

“It’s tough, man, because his family is going through a real tough time right now,” Chandler Parsons said. “The best thing we can do right now is play extremely hard, go out there and play like he’s here. Don’t change anything. Just go out there and get a win for him and for his family.

“We just keep him in our prayers and go out there and play hard.”

Kelvin Sampson has assumed head coaching duties in McHale's absence.

I have lots of faith in the coaching staff while KMac is gone and hope nothing but a speedy recovery for his daughter. I love basketball but nothing takes the place of a mans family and especially his kids.
