Looks good on paper. The problem is that Mike´s 7 seconds or less offense doesn´t really fit with Van Gundy´s system of holding the possession to keep the score down.

One possible solution would be for Jeff to just focus on the defense scheme and let Pringles take care of the offense.

While I agree with what you said about his defensive schemes, you must remember that Pat Riley coached the Knicks when we beat them. Van Gundy took over 2 years later when Riley went to the Heat to coach. But other than that, great point.

Van Gundy's offense was at least better than the one we have now. It could work if Les wasn't grooming Finch to take over after McHale gets the Axe. As far as the Mike Brown thing goes... NO WAY!!! Dude couldn't get it done with LeBron and he couldn't get it done with Kobe. Our situation is worse than there's, at least for the immediate future. Almost anyone would be an upgrade over McHale right now, except for Mike Brown. I'd rather bring in a fan from the crowd like that stupid Whoopie Goldberg movie.

co-head coaches, if thats what you mean, would not happen due to egos and pride. if either one would accept an assistant coach title, that would be perfect.

Uhhh.... another fire McHale thread disguising as a "I have a Great NEW Thought" Thread.

Look, JVG is a very similar coach to McHale other than the fact that he actually is LESS open to playing rookies, and his teams have never been good at pushing the ball uptempo.

Oh, and FYI, JVG as a coach was not the same guy you see on ESPN. He was much like McHale personality wise... always worn out looking, kind of a jerk to media reporters, and yes... he didn't always get along with his players 100% of the time.

As a media member McHale was very popular with his peers, funny, likable, and insightful. He rose up the ranks in just a couple years starting by doing occasional spots on NBATV to sharing the set with Charles, Kenny, and EJ frequently on TNT.

Anyone wanting JVG back with the Rockets is not old enough to remember him as a coach here in Houston.

That being said, I am still a huge fan of the guy. He's a solid, defensive minded hard nosed coach.

-Oh, and Basketball is not football. The offensive style blends into the way you approach your defensive sets as well. You can't just have a defensive coordinator and an offensive coordinator. Those two sides cannot work Autonomously in basketball. You can't go half D'Antoni half JVG. Doesn't work that way. You have to go full one or the other at least style wise.

Do some of you honestly think this team right now is a 50 win team?

Phil Jackson couldn't get that number when he had just Kobe Bryant alone.

    Cut down on your expectations.

In theory I'd like the idea....I just don't see how it'd work functionally. Their philosophies are entirely different and would be at odds with one another a levels I can't imagine but I'm certain would be there.

Don't care much for Pringles because of his defensive weaknesses. Love jvg as a coach but man it'd be boring basketball again.

IF McHale decides to resign because of family matters. Sampson should be the head coach instead of JVG or MD.

Sigh. This is 100th Fire McHale thread in the last year. You all can all give your inept opinions and meaningless blather a rest. Trust me, no one cares and no one is listening.
Dual head coaches? Give a a break.

Let's have Clyde be coach- it gets him off the air and we're assured a lotto pick.

Sure, Pringles and Diet Coke go great together, but we'll have a hard time trying to find enough Diet Coke to satisfy Van Gundy's addiction. He only works for Diet Coke these days.

It is not as easy as picking the best of each.

First off who plays? Adelman wants Martin while JVG wants Ryan Bowen. Either one screws it up for the other.

And when we put a shot up, defensive JVG will tell the guards to get back on defense, while Adelman wants them to go in for the board.
