At least when Lin is shooting poorly, or turning the ball over, he's also getting steals and rebounds. He's got a long way to go, but his versatility keeps him from being a total liability during these rough patches.
Is Jeremy Lin already one of the best PGs in terms of rebounds and steals? He seems to be consistently good for 4-5 rbs and 2-3 stls a game. That's gotta be up there, right?
Lin & Jennings are both leading the NBA in steals. They are leading all players. Lin is ranked 6th in the NBA in rebounds per game. Harden is 7th. So yeah Lin is definitely up there alright. Big thing that needs to improve is his FG% & his 3P% both need to move up. He's shooting 95% from the FT line right now needs to get out of this slump.
He needs to be more aggressive looking for his shot, his game thrives on confidence, doesnt really matter what the coach says right now cause his clueless, Lin has got to start shooting more shots instead of passing it up or shooting after losing rhythm.
At $8 mil, you're not going to get a franchise PG. Besides his Shooting%, all of Lin's other stats have been at least par for his salary. And when you take into account his TrueShooting%, he has thus far lived up to his contract. People act as though Lin has to be twice as good as a typical $8 mil PG in order to earn that kind of money. Double standards.

Lin may be good at everything else like rebounding, steals, and assists but the one skill that is holding him back is his ball handling. My goodness anytime he is going to face a fierce on the ball defender he is not going to have a stellar night. When the pressure gets in his face even he cannot run Mchale's "simple" offense. I cringe when the opposing PG is pressuring Lin...freaking Jerryd Bayless shutting down your supposedly young stud PG is not a good sign.
Response I agree that 17, 9, 2 player is a bargain for Lin, but I doubt that he will be able to achieve it this year unless his shooting improves and he adds some offensive variety. I think he will do 14 points and 7 assists per game this year. But he needs to take more shots and not pass up, because Harden will keep jacking up whether he misses them most of the time.
Actually I watched the game just this morning & it isn't as bad as you make it out to be. One of his TO's was from a travel & the other was a pass to Omer who fumbled it. One TO came in the 2nd quarter & Bayless wasn't even pressuring him Lin literally just fumbled it it was face palm worthy. The final TO was because of Bayless pressuring him.
Lin paid his price for not practicing his dribble skill when he was a teenager. Maybe he didn't have enough time because he had to study to have good grades to get into Harvard. Usually you develop good ball handling when you are a teenager by having ball in your hand all the time like most obsessed teenagers do. Ball handling skill is not something a player start to develop when they are well into 20s, although some practice can help a little. Lin improved a little bit over the summer. His handle is tighter than last season and he is doing better going left. But I just don't expect him to develop into a good ball handler, not gonna happen. Hopefully he can make up for this major weakness by shooting better.
Nobody is talking about Lin's defense in the game against Conley which was actually really solid. Honestly this is his 30th start & really he is playing at a solid level which is all that Morey wants from him anyway. I think it will take a while for him to build up that consistency & put everything together. He hasn't even played against every PG in the NBA yet. Right now the ugly offense really isn't helping any.
Not entirely accurate. The fumbled pass to Omer was charged to Omer, not Lin. Lin had another ball handling turnover that you left out, in the middle of the 3rd Q. He had the ball on the left side, drove baseline with a left hand dribble, got cut off by Gasol at the baseline, and just lost the ball behind Gasol's legs. It was kind of sad.
