Bickerstaff must have been offered a role with the new staff/organization. Why would he be willing to step in otherwise?
He was already one of Mike Brown's assistant's. Making the assistant the interim, temporary coach in these situations is traditionally done in these situations. This isn't out of the ordinary at all. In a few cases, the interim coach distinguishes himself and actually lands the job full-time, but it's doubtful that's what happens here. The Lakers are probably going to get a bigger name coach under contract soon.
