D'Antoni knows Kobe. He was an asst coach at the Olympics and he favors Kobe out of all the players in that USA roster
Bernie Bickerstaff or Chuck Person on interim basis. Decision was made last night and carried out this morning. Unanimous decision. Princeton gone? That decision hasn't been made. ______________________________________________ Broussard: This is surprising. I was told the Lakers were concerned about Mike Brown. Felt like they were seeing the deficiencies in Cleveland rear their head in LA. I was told nothing was imminent and would be given a little more time to turn it around. [Turns out only a couple of hours.] I'm surprised. It seems like it was a quick trigger for a guy who maybe didn't get a full chance this season (with the new guys). Kobe's role in this? As Kobe said, he was Mike's biggest supporter. That's true. He talked a lot privately with Brown. Kobe was for the Princeton. I don't know how much Kobe played into this decision but clearly Kobe, even though he may be fond of you and like you, bottom line with him is winning. Can't say how much he had to do with this. Long term, some names you're hearing? Tonight Bernie Bickerstaff will coach the team. Long term, a lot of big name coaches. Nate McMillian,(I'm told they have kinda looked at), Mike D'Antoni(w/ Nash there), Jerry Sloan is out there, and another name, Brian Shaw. We know he has had a long relationship with LA. He would have the endorsement of Kobe and Dwight. They would endorse Shaw. Brian Shaw definitely another guy you have to consider. Phil Jackson will always be out there. What is the likelihood either side reaches out to one another? As I've talked to people about Brown the last week, Jackson's name has come up. Nothing definitive. They said keep an eye on Phil. He's around. To Jim Buss to fire Brown so quickly, that's one sign that Jim would go back to Phil. Also Bynum. That was Jim's project. He was Bynum's biggest supporter but traded him for Dwight. Those are 2 signs that maybe now "you know what, things weren't so bad as they were w/ Jackson." (About Buss wanting previously to get away from the Triangle stuff) You can't throw Phil Jackson out of the running. What is Mike Brown's future? Will he coach again? Great question. It would be as an assistant. He's had great success as a HC in Cleveland but didn't get it done in the playoffs. In LA, last year he took them a little deeper than the year before. Some look at Brown as "This guy maybe can get it done", but I think it would be a few years but he's still young. He works hard. Maybe goes somewhere as an assistant and resurfaces as a HC. Or he goes around and observes practices and talk with coaches. I think it's a few years before he gets another HC job.
It's not like D'Antoni is unpopular with Nash, either. Nash netted two MVP's under that man's system.
good! the sooner the better for the Lakers Mike Brown sucks plain and simple... The Lakers will now flourish and get that championship trophy

Terrible hire from the start. Bigger question is whether they have the Bulls to try and bring in a real coach with the season already underway. Most established coaches don't want to take on a team without an offseason to evaluate the players and teach/implement their system. On the other hand, Nash, Kobe, and Howard are awfully big incentives for coaches to sign on and watch their career wins go up. If Lakers were smart (they weren't a year and a half ago), they would bring in a defensive guy that can put some fire under the lazy rears that are killing them right now, and is more of a player's coach on offense. You don't need or want the Triangle or Princeton with this group, especially not with Howard. All you want to do is alternate between: Inside Out basic post play with players spreading the floor and letting Howard (occasionally Gasol) go to work in the post, with the other 4 daring you to leave them open at the arc and High Post Screens with Gasol out high to play off of Nash or Kobe. You have the ability to make this play far more lethal by having Howard on the low weak side setting a screen for the other guard (Nash/Kobe) so that when the ball handler comes off the high screen, he has multiple options (slash, jumper, pass to Gasol out high or rolling to the basket, pass to Kobe/Nash coming off Howard's screen, pass to Howard underneath on the weakside) You really don't need a complicated system for a team this talented. No team can afford to double when facing 4 dangerous threats. Running something as complicated as the Princeton is needlessly high effort. Good coaching finds the easiest way to get high percentage baskets.
Jerry Sloan is an interesting choice. If they're considering Shaw, then they migth as well consider Rambis (triangle only works if you've got the right pieces).
I thought this was really funny Mikhail Prokhorov @Fake_Prokhorov What is chance Lakers are trade Dwight Howard? I ask for friend.
