It's not about owing the team. It's about helping out the city. The city never did anything to him, but worship him.

When Houston gets a great young post player then he'll help. He helped Yao didn't he? He sells his service so it's up to Pat, D-Mo or whomever to go out and buy it.

 

My understanding is that Dream used to keep his services relegated to friends of friends and people within the organization. And then if you wanted to thank him by donating to the charity of his choice, go for it. Is that accurate?

But now it turns out that a gazillion people all want to learn from a living legend, the back of the line is 10 blocks from here, so Hakeem has to be more selective these days about how to donate his time, and he has to charge these people as well.
