Jones may get some burn tomorrow. Gasol is the only center on the Gizzlies so I think Patterson may play all the backup 5 minutes. That could open up about 8-10 minutes for Jones to spell Patterson and Morris at the 4.
Caught a segment of mchale on 790. Pretty much confirm he won't play the rooks. he don't trust them because "they will make mistake" and they won't sniff the floor unless there an injury
But the guys that are playing are supposedly not making any mistakes? 20 plus turnover games and this is McHale's reasoning? I'm a put it out there I hate this guy as a coach he's the freakin cancer to this team.
Are you kidding me with this "i don't trust the rookies" bulls***???!!!! It seems like the Rockets are the only ones pulling this garbage!!!! Every season!!!! Davis MKG Beal Waiters Robinson Lillard Barnes Ross Drummond Rivers Leonard Henson Harkless Zeller Nicholson Fournier Sullinger Jenkins Wroten Plumlee Moultrie Ezeli All have logged regular season minutes (that i know of). McHale is full of it!!!
I don't think this is McHale's strategy. The same thing happened when Adelman was here. Remember guys, Morey+Assets=Championship. Morey wants to squeeze every ounce of value he can out of players like Morris so he can ship them off for something that is slightly better if they don't pan out. I sense another deal looming for us, probably for a PF depending on how the landscape looks before the all-star break.
Parsons has hit a souphmore slump and has been getting outplayed by Morris , I would start Morris at the 3 , have Parsons back him up , and let T.Jones back up Patterson. Also I would send Royce white and D.Mo to the D League so they could get regular minutes and develope until we need them. Hell anything is better Tha. What we are doing with them now
How many of those guys play a position in which the starter and backup were drafted higher and within last two years? Zero. Rockets have also not had any garbage time this season.
Isnt this the same thing they said about Adelman?? and if thats the case ... Adelman >>>>>McHELL Naw But I will say we need a post scorer at the 4 spot (T.Jones) ASAP...and a better back-up point(had one in livingston...smh)....
I dont know what interview you were listening to, but the one I heard made it seem like the first part of the season will be tough for them to sniff the floor, but as the season progresses they will get their chance just like every other rookie has had their chance other than possibly Morris last season(under unusual post lockout circumstances). Believe it or not though... its not going to happen just 4 games into an 82 game season.
Rotation should be ..... Lin/Cook/Dougie Harden/Delfino Parsons/Morris/Deffino(Jones)-Parsons has not locked this position IMO Jones/2Pat/Mone/Morris Asik/Smith/Aldi
I expect he will be shortly. I expect he will do good when he is in the rotation and people will claim they knew all along McHale was holding him back. I think the Rockets want him to get his assignments down before bringing him in along with that he has competition for the minutes. Morris and Patterson's minutes will not be given to him. I do expect that as Jones gets assignments down, Rockets will be more willing to play Patterson at 5 with him at the 4.
Then we're screwed because Terrence Jones and Dmo have talent, and won't get to develop it. And so we have to be stuck with Morris and Patterson's now-you-see-it, now-you-don't efforts. Morey better be burning some phones and have a plan. I don't relish the thought of yet another #14 draft pick. Guess the rooks'll be sent to the damned RGV.
Morris and Patterson have a short window to have their career's with the Rockets evaluated from the coaches and front office. Do you not think its wise to give those 2 extended minutes for a half season in the rotation to see what their ceiling is before Morey cuts ties at some point in the near future? The Rockets have 3 or 4 seasons left with the current rooks under contract, very limited amounts of 1st round draft picks coming up in the next few seasons, and plenty of open roster spots next season when Cook, Douglas, Aldrich, and possibly Delfino get released. The Rockets are not at a place where they should by any means be wasting away the last legitimate season those two players have to prove themselves as future quality NBA players, and not throwaways. So my opinion is that this is partial showcasing if there are any good deals out there, but more important than anything this is like taking the car that you built out on a long road trip before you decide whether its worthy of drag racing to win alot of money, to sell for profit, or to auction it off for scrap metal. It would be unwise to scrap that car for scrap metal when you haven't even hit the road with it first after you put years of investment, blood, sweat, and possibly tears into that car. It might not be the greatest example to compare basketball players to cars, but hopefully I got my point accross. Give Patrick & Morris some burn on the open road before we sell them for scraps or take them to the dump. The new models aren't going anywhere for awhile.
The team Adelman coached actually had veterans and much more experience. Don't compare his coaching situation to what McHale is currently doIng with a team where the average age is 23. Two totally different situations.
Adelman: I came here to coach Yao, T-Mac and Battier, and I end up with Scola, Hayes and Martin McHale: I came here to coach Scola, Hayes and Lowry, and I end up with a bunch of boys that just hit puberty (except Harden, referring to the beard of course)
I agree with McHale, who sees these guys every practice. If you thought the TO's were bad now just wait till Dmo and White get on the court. The only rooks I trust to protect the ball would be Machado and Jones.
