Didn't see this posted before so lock if need be. But really some timeless photos in the mix. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/specials/100greatestphotos/?hpt=hp_rr_7#grid
I clicked on that link expecting to see the picture of Mutombo laying on the ground, clutching the basketball after defeating the Sonics in 1994. That's better than most of the pictures they have there.
I couldn't see any captions other than the subject hover, kinda want the backstory on Johnson and Kennedy. Really like seeing celebrity and especially politician sports pictures because I think you get to see an honest moment. A little less so with the celebrities, though; I remember Ashley Judd embarrassing herself at some Kentucky March Madness game.
Especially since it's one of the few photos that actually shows what was great about him. That, the last few minutes of Ali Foreman and that one time he was on Cosell and jokingly threatened to hit him (feet were quick as hell).
The ones of Magic / Bird positioning against each other for a rebound is better than the one of them in college that they used, imo. There are several to choose from. Even made a SI cover
I pretty much agree with this, though my thinking is they either didn't want to specifically choose cover photos as to appear biased...or it allows them to come out with a "100 Greatest SI Covers" (if such a list hasn't already come out...there's bound to at least be a coffee table book of cover photos...or there should be a coffee table book if there isn't one already).
There are some incredible photos that bring back memories in there. That Ali photo still is one of my favorite photos of all time.
Of course it is. ESPN had a top Olympians and it was like 38/40 were Americans or something. The only football (soccer) picture is of the USWNT.
Because they mostly cover U.S. sports? Why aren't there any MEXICANS (Pau Gasol is a Spaniard)?!?!?! Kidding.
